Large scale corn producers ( 10`s or more of acreage ) and tips
Comments (10)nc-crn, I have read somewhere that fertilization of corn needs to be done at the start of planting the seed and also at around 18" of height. If you are using driven machinery, how is ( the 18" requirement ) it done? The 18" height seems like a feat to me. Seems like the guy running the machinery would be mowing down the plants left and right. I hope those that are reading this had put down the soda pop before they laughed at my remark! Wouldn`t want them to have to clean off their monitor after spraying soda on it ). :) I thought about this tonight and was curious. pnbrown, I was talking about sweet corn. You were right. :) Is grain corn easier to grow and do you get a better yield from it? I am also guessing that grain corn is for feeding cattle and other commercial uses? It isn`t much for human consumption as the taste is probably not what most want? farmerdill, Have found that it is interesting to see 3 or 4 ears on a stalk but only 1, MAYBE 2 ears are usable. The first time that I grew it, I was drooling over the fact that I had so many ears coming off of each stalk. I thought I would be in hog heaven. When it came time to pick, I was soooo disappointed. I would pretty much get one decent long ear from each stalk but the rest were pitiful. Hehehe! Those corporate chemists ought to at least make a variety with one guaranteed nice fat ear and be done with it!!! LOL! What spacing is good to get 2 good ears? I am running mine at about 10 to 12 inches per plant. The rows are about 18 inches apart. :) BTW, I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday! The turkey knocked me out for about an hour and a half tonight! Was doing OK until I got home from running the roads to visit family and friends. My couch and the turkey tag teamed me and I lost the fight. Sneaky buggers..........See MoreExtra Lily Scales...

Comments (29)Hi Marilyn, Well ... I have one feral cat, that's been around for a long time. She loves to be petted ... but won't let me pick her up and hold her. Don't know what happened to them all - ten years ago when uncle's wife died and I spent a couple of months with him till his cattle went on grass, he had about a dozen, and after his death two years later there were a few less than that. There was one old gray one that probably died. Some folks several years ago left four little white kittens in a box by the mailbox, and in the morning their all-white Mom showed up, as well. The kittens all had an extra claw, and landlord found homes for all, but I don't remember what happened to the mom. One had four kittens, I found one lying in the driveway, and its head was squashed, so it appears that it got run over. The final two of that litter disappeared together, so possibly a fox or coyote got them ... if they'd been out on the road, it's doubtful whether both would have been hit together. There have been some visitors temporarily around for a while, on occasion, the latest being a few months ago, and now the remaining female is getting rather large around the girth, so expect that there'll be some more, soon. As for the money ... have you heard what residential homes cost per month ... let alone the fees at nursing homes? The idea is to use up the last dollar on the last day of one's life ... and can you tell me how to arrange that? (Apart from suicide ... which gets difficult, when one gets seriously disabled ... and a friend who's willing to help ... goes to jail!). And one presumes that one has arranged for the cost of the funeral. And the burial plot (if not scattering ashes on the river ... a nearby field ... a woodlot, etc.). It's rather important that one has arranged for enough to pay for one's final income tax bill: those folks prefer that. And for many, there's a spouse - I avoid that situation. And one would like to leave some to one's kids. And there are worthwhile charities, that suggest that one think of them when making one's will. What else can you suggest - oh, yes - you put in your $0.02 worth of request, as well, didn't you? Up here, soon, that'll need to be one's $0.10 worth, what with the demise of the penny. But I guess there'll be some of yours, floating around, for a while. ole joyful...See Morecrossposting - visual clutter and small bath - trim?
Comments (4)When I was reading your post I thought your space was small, (like your knees hit the wall when you sit on the pot) but looking at the plot, it really is a nice size. I would definitely use the pebble trim and if you like it so much, can you use the river rock for the shower floor as well? It looks wonderful and there was a study done awhile back that said walking barefoot on stones reduces blood pressure. Just make sure you place the trim strips where they will show as they are expensive so you don't want to hide them. Typically you don't have them run along the middle of the room which is what your sketch shows. If you are running them into the shower too, then it's a lot easier for the tiler if the border runs where the fixtures don't connect through the wall....See Morenini804
