Adding blueberries to Swedish Apple Pie

16 years ago

With a tree full of ripe apples out back I have decided a pie must be made tonight. Recipe below.

* 1 1/2 pounds Fuji apples - peeled, cored and sliced

* 1 tablespoon sugar

* 1/2 cup sugar & 1/2 cup brown sugar

* 1 cup flour

* 1 teaspoon cinnamon & 1 teaspoon nutmeg

* 3/4 cup melted butter

* 1 egg

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Toss apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar, and pour them into a pie plate. Thoroughly mix together 1 cup of sugar with the flour, cinnamon, butter, and egg. Spread this evenly over the top of the pie.
  3. Bake in preheated oven until the apples have cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 40 to 45 minutes.

My only change is to use a pre made crust for the bottom. Love this recipe.

My question is regarding possibly incorporating some dried blueberries. We picked up a bag from Costco last weekend. Would the best course of action be to just add them as they are, dried or to hydrate in say some bourbon or brandy? If so how do I do that? Simmer in the alcohol then drain and add?

Thank you!

Kate
