We have Wellborn cabinets in two bathrooms and for the kitchen island. In the bathroom that the kids use, we have the mocha cream (painted/glazed). After 3 1/2 years, it stilllooks like new. Remarkable, as the kids never think to run the fan. In the master bath we have cherry, and they also look like new. My big disappointment is with the island. It is the painted black, not distressed finish (midnight, maybe?). While the construction is good, the finish leaves something to be desired. The paint is chipping in several spots, as well as wearing thin around the knobs on the most used drawers. It is also extremely difficult to clean without streaking. I tell my husband I'm glad we didn't pay the up-charge for distressing, as we've done it so well for free. Totally Confused

We have a mix of Omega Dynasty and their next line down in a lighter oak. I really like the look of this and the cabinets are functioning well. Originally, I wanted natural maple and was bothered by the great color variations in the store display kitchen. The oak seemed more uniform in color and was less expensive. I can't comment on the other line you're considering.

I am in the cabinet selection process for my new build home and have just received pricing back for custom Mullet cabinets in the kitchen and Wellborn Select cabinets in four bathrooms, pantry, laundry, wet bar. All will be painted. I am currently $8,000 over my allowance. The builder's designer said that if I go with all Wellborn cabinets including the kitchen, I will be $3000 over my allowance. I am wondering if this is worth the compromise. I will be looking at the Wellborn cabinets in a house tomorrow to see if I am happy with the quality and look. The designer keeps telling me that the Wellborn cabinets are maple doors but when I look at the Wellborn website, it appears that the Select series if MDF doors. I am okay with going semi-custom instead of custom in the kitchen but I want wood doors, all wood/dovetail soft close drawers. My other thought is that the factory finished Wellborn painted cabinets may hold up better than the painted finish on the custom cabinets. Thoughts from the group on whether saving $5000 is worth giving up the Mullet kitchen?

Last year we installed Wellborn cabinets, the higher end version. I had purchased the cabinets for another project and ended up using them in my home. The painted surface finish is excellent. The cabinets are nice but pricey for the product. I needed more cabinets to make this work in my home. The price quote I got from Wellborn was obscene and they would not provide the customization I wanted. I ended up buying custom made from a local cabinetmaker for a substantial savings. They were able to match the Wellborn paint perfectly. I found the drawer slides and cabinet hinges were better quality in the custom made cabinets. I really liked the Wellborn cabinets but didn't find them to be a great value.
