Our friends on Food Network!

Our friends Judy and Phil got challenged with a Bobby Flay "Throwdown" yesterday at the Fish Market in Moss Landing. The show won't air until later in November, but Judy reports that the whole day, taping with the Food Network, was fabulous. I'll let everyone know.

Phil made his famous cioppino, and I am sure that Bobby couldn't match it.

I watched the video and drooled...
Notice the pots he used....no fancy clad whatever...it appeared to be an aluminum stock pot.

My DH was watching and I finally got sucked in for the last few episodes -- so I didn't watch all the lead-ups. One thing that occurred to me . . . until recently, and for the last 32 years, I lived in a small resort town. We had one grocery store, except for a glorious 2-year period with a real supermarket, with specialty foods -- it closed. So if my one store didn't carry an ingredient, or was out, I faced a 40 minute trip to find it, or change my menu -- which in reality, is what I did. For out-of-the-ordinary ingredients, I just had to plan ahead -- for my out of town shopping trips. Harissa -- not a chance! I wonder how many other fans live in areas where Jeffrey's exotic ingredients would be difficult to obtain. Incidentally, I'm now in a town with 4 (count 'em!!) supermarkets, the smallest of which is larger than my former one!! Oh, my!!!

I think Mary Beth took the high rode and just made the best of the situation and did good considering she was basically a one woman show on that challenge. Penny...it was shown early on that she was fairly slow when it came to food prep. I remember the food truck challenge where she was taking forever to prep her food. So I think in part, that's just how she works, but I do think that she did absolutely nothing to try to speed herself up to accomodate the fast paced challenge. And I think she did that on purpose. Not sure if she was out to sabotage her, but I dont think she was out to help her. I like Susie and hope she wins. She's been a favorite all along. I love her bubbly little personality and she's camera friendly.

Just because someone enjoys a drink doesn't make them an alcoholic, but alcoholism is complex. Not all alcoholics hide their drinking, some, like my ex, just don't care. His job wasn't impacted because he owned the business. He didn't drive around, so he didn't get arrested. I took care of the kids so that wasn't an issue. He bought a shirt that said "I'm not an alcoholic, alcoholics attend meetings. I'm a drunk." My ex still drinks every day but now he owns a health food store, so he will "sneak" a drink or two in the afternoon, and then he drinks all evening. My Mother drinks a glass of red wine in the evening and it takes her about 3 hours to drink it. She doesn't NEED it and doesn't get annoyed if she doesn't have it, but she likes it and there's always a bottle of Paul Newman wine in her house because she's an 83 year old fan-girl, LOL. My Dad said nothing tasted better than a cold beer when it was really hot outside. My son in law goes out for a drink with the guys after work once a week but never drinks at home. There are different "types" of drinkers just as there are different types of alcoholics. It's something about all people being different. I don't think that Sooz was being particularly insulting or judgmental, just that she thought the excitement was a little over done. Since the Food Network is made up of people who aren't actors, I'm guessing that they are told to convey a certain "persona" and some of them just aren't very good at it. I've always thought that "reality television" isn't real and it's just a way to entertain us without having to hire real actors. What else could explain the Kardashians, Honey BooBoo or Duck Dynasty? (That last was a rhetorical question and doesn't really require an answer, LOL) Annie

How cool is that? I love Bobby Flay, he seems to have a great personality. Great promotion for their store as well.

Oh, how fun! I'll be sure to watch it as well. That show airs re-runs a lot so even if we miss it, we'll eventually get to see it a few more times. I would love to try his cioppino!!

How fun!! When we visited the area a couple of years ago we ate at Moss Landing on your recommendation. Great crab too!

We saw Phil tonight, and Jim talked to him while he bought a bottle of wine at the bar. Phil is still glowing and states that the day was just fabulous.

A hunch tells me that he must have won the Throw-Down!

How much fun is that!!! I really enjoy watching Throwdown, Bobby Flay seems so down to earth.

Very cool for sure! Be sure and reminds us when it is going to be on. I'm kind of slow.....are you my ole college football pal....you know the chokes and all??? LOL! If so, great to see you back on the forum. I always think about you when I see that CA garlic and chokes at the store...college FB too.

Hi David, yeah, I'm back! Cal(Berkeley) is our team and have been in and out of the top 25, but they are inconsistent this year. All I know is that this year (so far) it's Texas Texas Texas, which can't make Sooner fans very happy, being at #4. But we'll root for any Pac Ten teams in the end!

Too cool, I'm glad to see you back here again! We are hoping for another upset...OSU almost pulled it off a couple of weeks ago. Reguardless, I LOVE college football!
