ISO Classic Kitchens Forum Threads
Comments (15)This is such a great idea. I have learned so much from some of these "classic" threads. One that I'd nominate is the "modest or quirky kitchens" thread started by florantha in 2010. It is so full of nuggets of wisdom and enthusiasm for doing something different and going off the beaten path. Here is a link that might be useful: Quirky kitchens...See MoreRefining Kitchen Layout - Help!
Comments (71)I would prefer to have a separate PR and laundry closet, which also gives more options for sink placement (in sena's plans), but it's your preference. I'd also prefer a bathroom door that seals better than a bypass door, because of noises and smells. If I were your guest I'd prefer that option, too. This is what I mean by pantry (oops, that should be laundry--sorry for the confusion) barn door--it would be in the same plane as the basement bump-out, but the track would be above the laundry and the vestibule entry from the basement. And since there should be no embarrassing noises or smells coming from the laundry, the door doesn't need to seal:If it's possible to get a sliding door that matches the PR pocket door, would that help the aesthetics of having two doors on one wall? I don't think it was the issue of having two doors on the same wall--it was the issue of having a bathroom open into the middle of the kitchen, especially with a door that doesn't seal well. At least, that was the issue for me. No problem at all if you ask for clarification--better to figure all this out now, than when the framer is presenting you with the final bill. :)...See MoreWhich of these corner cabinet options is the most useful?
Comments (22)I was on my way to having a corner cabinet that opens to the back of the peninsula, like my old layout. Knowing how it was used before, and how it was used in the house I grew up in (which didn't even have an overhang getting in the way) I decided I'd rather take whatever storage a super susan could give me on the work side of the peninsula. In our torn out kitchen, that cabinet held a coffee roaster, deep fryer, and easy bake oven. 2of the 3 are out the door. The third will fit in our pantry and mixing bowls and measuring cups will likely take up residence in the newly accessible corner. The super Susan or lazy susAn debate was solved for us when we got our cabinets off Craigslist. We took what was offered. The door is hinged in the middle, and we've tried it out in its future position next to the range and it worked out just fine....See MoreWhich provides more storage space? Super Susan or Corner Drawers?
Comments (22)I have 2 lower cabinet corners. I considered the drawer but was told by cabinet company and contractor that they would not maximize space. I didn’t really want a super Susan because I thought they also wasted space, but decided to get one anyway. So I have a super Susan in one corner and just open space in the other, with shelves. I love the super Susan. I was worried that my stuff wouldnt fit there, but I currently have:electric fry pan, blender, hand mixer, marble rolling pin, immersion blender, food saver, pizelle maker, fondue pot, crepe maker. Waffle iron, juicer, mini crock pot, 6 qt multi cooker, and 14 cup food processor, along with bags for vacuum sealer. It’s great! In the other corner are some pots and pans, air fryer, etc. I am happy with what we ended up doing....See Moreannkh_nd
