I love my new floors!

We finally got them refinished. We moved to our son's for the last 5 days while our neighbor did them. We took our carpet up a year ago and the floors were so ugly! Really a mess....we thought. One day DH was talking to the neighbor who we really didn't know at the time too well. They are the ones with the kids and the ball constantly coming over in our yard. Well he owns his own flooring company and said he would do them for free because of the things we have had to put up with from his kids. He has stopped them from playing ball in their yard also because they broke one of his windows and our bathroom window. So it's been quiet over there since then! Anyway he finally got some free tiome to do our floors for us. I can't believe that such UGLY wood can look so pretty again! We have literally moved out and in again inside of a week. He even put up new baseboards for us....ours was really old, the skinny ones. We just have to pay him for his materials....a bargain!

The varnish smell is overpowering but getting better...we have to keep our windows open and it is so cold and windy here!

Here's the color we got.....I love it! It's so shiny!!

its not the # of days but the moisture content of the wood. You'll need a moisture meter to determine the content left in the wood. I'd wait at leat one week.

I have a Dyson DC37 Animal Canister (the purple one) that works very well on our wood, tile, area rugs, and carpeted stairs. I have two dogs and one is double-coated so maybe she counts as two dogs?? I couldn't believe I was spending *that much* on a vacuum but it's really worked out well. On the hardwood, there's a trigger to stop the brush beater since the dog hair just sucks right up. The beater sure works well to get the dog hair off of the tile and area rugs though some of the smaller and lighter rugs have to have the suction eased off as they try to climb inside the vac. If all you have is hardwood, then perhaps you would be fine with the DC37 non-Animal that has a different floorbrush without a beater bar at all. It's less expensive too. The canister follows around very well. I hadn't had a canister for decades and was skeptical about this one but it heels better than my dogs. I love *not* having an upright to lift around for stairs etc. The Roomba does sound lovely and a friend swears by hers, though I think it would creep me out a little in a Twilight Zone kinda way when I'd forget about it and then catch a glimpse of it. OMIGOSH! How pretty! I'd like to have hardwood floor in my house, at least in the livingroom and hallway. Maybe someday!

We got rid of our carpet a few years ago,and have never regretted it.Hardwood floors are so much easier to maintain.You're going to love them!

Fantastic job, Granny! I can just imagine how happy you are to have that done. I want to rip up our carpeting too but we only have concrete under there, so it's going to have to wait until we're ready. I have bamboo picked out already though!

Beautiful! I can see why you love them - they are fantastic!

Our floors have never been refinished - but they have never had carpet laid over them either. Original 80+ year old floors. I know they would look awesome if we refinished them, but I am not ready to be that careful, LOL.

Did your floor guy tell you to not put area rugs down for a while? Some say 6 months.

I use those magic slider type things under ALL of my furniture. It makes it super easy to move the furniture - and the furniture doesn't gouge/scratch the floors when it sit there either. I get them at Wal-Mart. They come in different sizes for what ever you need to put them on.

Make sure you get them on any chairs ASAP!

Those sooooo pretty Vikki! I love the color stain you chose. Looks like you could bust your butt if you wore socks on that mirror finish. LOL I would love hardwood in the living area of our home. It's just a little too expensive right now.

It's so nice to know that you and your neighbor have become better friends too. I'm sure that means a lot to you, regardless of the flooring help.

Thanks....yes we did put pads on all of the furniture and no rugs for awhile. I was afraid the would leave little patterns from the backing! He coated them pretty well he said to make them very durable, but it's still scary! I'll relax in a few months...but for now I won't even wear my shoes on them! I have the dogs locked out of the living room and hall for now....they stay in the bedrooms or the kitchen. Too cold and wet to leave them outside. It's been hectic but worth it!

Absolutely Beautiful!!! We replaced our carpet in the living room and dinning room this past August
and I wanted hardwood floors but at the price the company was going to charge us, I immediately
said no way! Again your floor is beautiful.

gwanny, do you know how many coats of sealer he used? 3 used to be the magical number...can you get the doggies nails clipped?

Yes he put 3 coats on....and DH is going to clip the doggies nails this week. We are getting a clipper to keep here. One of our dogs hates for someone else to mess with him and they have to sedate him to anything as simple as clipping his nails. DH decided to do it. Our neighbor said3 coats would make it pretty durable. I love it!
