Thanks for the heads up! I hope JCP can hang in there. IMO the new store look is great & I love the clothing & jewelry that they are carrying. Seeing SO much stuff on clearance though and at the price points that they are at is quite concerning to me in regards to their future.

They had $6 T shirts on mannequins that looked like Old Navy. Hope the rest of their things aren't going to be "cheap".

I was in the curtain/drape section today and it did look quite bare. There were 3 women working and no one asked if they could help me. I would have been certainly interested in the type of deal you got, good for you!

I went to a JCP Home store this weekend to look for curtains and was shocked because it was VERY bare. I left wondering if that branch is closing or if the entire company is going under.

I have been a longtime and loyal JCPenney home goods shopper. Never cared much for their clothes and accessories but have gotten so much furniture, bed and bath linens, cookware etc at Penney's. I always found their prices and quality to be really good.

Hope JC Penney isn't circling the drain.

They eliminated the Supreme line??? I can't believe it! I worked at JCP in the window coverings dept years ago, and the Supreme line was the backbone of that department.

I was in a JCP store yesterday in WI. The clothing departments looked great. Clean, lots of stock, very organized. There was evidence of some remodeling going on. Went up to the home furnishings/ furniture department and it was bare bones with remaining items on clearance. A salesperson told us that they were just about to begin a remodel of that department. I didn't check out the drapery department since I didn't need any at this time.

The lady said the Supreme weren't a big seller any more. I guess the younger shoppers want the grommet drapes.

Also, the Linden St. sheers are discontinued.

I have always had a good drapery experience at JCP. I like Halfpricedrapes also but I am a big fan of JCP. If I am doing drapes for someone who can afford them and we need them to complete the look, of course, I prefer custom drapery but I have a special affection for JCP drapes based on price, quality and great customer service and knowledge of their salespeople.

JCP will have to dumped their "one price no sales " model .
Although in theory, a fair price all the time sounds fair,
the psychology of the American shopper is too ingrained .
I do enjoy the "mall-like" feeling within one store.
Mine now has a Sephora.
I did however spend too much time wondering before I went up to one of the two chatting sales assoc. and ask for assistance .

I think I read that they are or will be dumping the one price policy. I also understand that the MS line will be very limited to begin w/as JCP is embroiled in a legal battle w/ Macy's over it.

I read that too Foxes. JCP lost over 20% of their sales since implementing the new marketing strategy. They are going back to having sales again. But I do question quality as many of the decor items bought are slim to none. Linden Street was a decent product.

Whoever they hired for marketing was an idiot. I quit buying (although not a big shopper) after finding less and less of interest, out of stock or never getting a sale again.

There are times I would love to get those huge old catalogs again from Sears, Wards and JCP. My kids could spend hours looking through them.

No offense to anyone who likes the supreme draperies, but I think that while they were very popular for years, I just don't see the antique satin (fabric) that popular anymore.

I haven't shopped much at JCP in quite some time. To me, they got a bit "stodgy" in their clothing. Based on responses here, I may need to go take a look. I have been pleased with their home department in the past and look forward to seeing how they update that.

We bought a sectional for our basement at JCP a few weeks ago. The saleslady told us that they are revamping the furniture dept. and bringing in almost all Made in USA furniture. Our sectional is supposed to be one of those, but when I looked online, it said "Made in America of imported materials", which isn't quite the same to me but better than all Made in China. We were offered free shipping, free toss pillows and 10% off if we opened a credit card with them, so it was a pretty good deal even with the no sale policy. We don't have it yet, so I'm hoping that it's as nice as the floor model.

I'm still mourning the demise of the St Johns Bay equivalent of Docker pants. I don't like their JCP brand. Bah humbug!

I went in JC Penney for the first time in a long time a few weeks ago. I was looking for clothes and was pleasantly surprised with the changes in what they were carrying -- esp. in plus sizes. There was still what I call the bingo/casino collection, but there were more stylish choices and also active/workout wear. And the prices were great. I've never been one to collect and manage coupons very well (cut them out and forget them, or even put them in my purse then forget them, they expire on me, etc.) so the one-price thing is fine for me. I thought the store redesign looked like they were trying to become the Target of department stores (letting Sears be the Wal-Mart of department stores). But the iPhone/iPod-based checkout system seemed a little to Apple Store for Penney's, KWIM? There must be a corporate connection there somewhere.

Back to home goods. I took a spin through tat department and it was indeed very, very sparse. I only looked at lamps and pillows, but there were a lot of empty shelves and everything was on clearance. So I guess the back half of the store is about to get the same treatment the front half of the store already got.

I so miss the days when children and mothers perused the JCPenney catalog for back-to-school clothing. No matter how rich or how poor the kids were, they always looked forward to the Penney catalog. They also had a good Christmas catalog, but I don't recall one since my children were smaller. I guess the American way is gone. We are now the feast-famine society.

On a related note I got a bleach stain on my JC Penney matelasse bedspread last week, and when I checked to try to replace it, JCP seems to have discontinued their entire matelasse line of bedclothes, which makes me very sad. They sold under the brand names Jaden and Loire, and they were great quality at very good prices. One of the two was 100% cotton which I definitely appreciated.

Hmmm, maybe this is an entry into the 'you know you are getting old when' category: your favorite curtains and bedspreads are put out to pasture!

I haven't been in a JCP for years so I don't have any experience with the changes. I do like the look of the sale flyer that comes with the newspaper. It's sleeker and nicer to look at compared to many other too-busy-looking store ads. But I haven't gone into the store so I guess the ad is not really working to convince me to shop there.

Maybe after refreshing, the drapery department will come back even better?

Technicolor, unfortunately those are clearance sale prices on the matelasse bedspreads :(. And, there is very little left at that. But thanks for sending!

I read an article where Martha Stewart and JCP were already arguing over the items for the stores, so I wouldn't be surprised if she pulled the plug on the whole thing! She wants high dollar quality materials and JCP wants to stick w/ low price points.

I better baby my matelesse bedspread then if they are discontinuing them! Took me forever to find one I liked, and I don't want to have to go through that again. :)
