Because the majority of the fabric is ivory and it is an open pattern, I think it looks fine with your rug. I don't think they are too busy.
Also, most of the time they will be pushed in and you will only see a small part of the pattern.

They don't connect for me, but I'm sure others will feel differently. Something else might set off your pretty new covers more. No small investment, however!

We can see very little but it appears to me like the room is taking a new direction.

That one does seem to work better! what do you think?

Has kind of a "script" feel to the pattern, colors and less formal. Also picks up the white of the chair which the other doesn't and seemed too bright with the rug.

Keep coming back to analyze why I like it better, lol.

That LR rug seems to have a more vintage feel to it, too.

I don't care for the first one either. It seems to me that the patterns are fighting because they are both medium sized patterns. I like the second combination better. For me, the pattern on the second rug has a certain fluer-de-lis inspiration to it, the colours are nice and the pattern size is a little smaller and so doesn't fight with your chair covers. JMHO.

It's not just patterns - the contrast in colors in the second one helps.

I like the LR one better. I've left the chair on the rug and am walking past it from different angles and it does look quite nice.

Funny, because we had that rug in the DR of our last house paired with our Century Town & Country dining room set that I had to leave behind because it didn't fit in this house. :-(

I'm always second guessing myself - and I kinda feel like I should have gone with a velvet for the chair pads, but as I said, I've always loved that french-document fabric.

And yes -- I agree that the patterns are fighting in the first.

I'll wait and see what it looks like when the new LR rug comes in - can't move it yet because of the piano.

I like the second combination much better too. I like the play of the light print against the darker rug.

I think the first one looks better than the 2nd, but I am going by style rather than color. The chairs covers to my eye have a cottage feel and the rugs are traditional. But the style of the covers is more traditional. I don't mind the 1st with it, I think it blends.

On second look, I'm going to take back what I said - the color looks best in contrast with the 2nd, even though I like the style of the first rug with it, its too bland.

Another vote for the second rug! Independently I love the scripted chair covers and LR rug, but together they look perfect! As for the current DR rug, it reads kinda blah to me; perfect rug for under a bed tho in case you are looking to repurpose elsewhere.

While I like the first rug better on its own (the softer colors), i think that the chairs and the second rug work really well together. More contrast while the shapes seem more similar, and you have the cream and some of the darker colors that go together.

as much as i can tell from the photos, i much prefer your new chair covers with the LR rug!

Although I don't like things too "matchy-matchy" and I love different patterns in a room (for interest), I think the 2nd rug looks the best with the rug. I think it is the cream in the rug that makes it work with the chair pad (which is beautiful BTW).
