Savory buttermilk ideas and recipes

I don't think I mentioned it before but since the beginning of the summer, the five immediate members of our family have lost a combined total of 140+ pounds.

We didn't go on any type of specific diet, just lowered fat, portion control, scheduled sweets and made healthier choices in restaurants.

Along the way, we discovered buttermilk. I have always used it in baking but began substituting it for sour cream, half and half or heavy cream in some recipes, with mixed results. I added it to homemade cream of celery soup and it was better than the original recipe. It was also good in mashed potatoes and turnips and dried beef-horseradish dip but not so good in my recipe for cream of mushroom soup.
