don't you recycle? i replaced my old containers but threw them in the recycle bin, not the trash...

I keep the lids off, in a separate container. The containers themselves are stacked together to save room.

I put all my tupperware out in a box marked 'free' on a yard sale years ago.

Now? I go to the bar supply store and buy deli containers. They come in 1 cup, 1 pint, and 1 quart sizes and the same lids fit all. The containers nest for compact storage. They're about $7 for 50 containers. They're reusable, but since they only cost pennies apiece, you don't mind tossing one if you find it growing a science experiement at the back of th fridge. And no need for your guests to have to worry about returning the container if you send leftovers home.

Oh, you asked about lids-- The lids come in a sleeve--I just cut the top of the sleeve back a bit, and leave them in it (replacing them in it after they're washed)--keeps things neat.

I will note, that you have to be careful--the containers come in different qualities. The very clear ones are thin and cheap and don't hold up well, but if you can find a bar supply that has the 'milky' looking plastic deli containers, they're of decent quality and will last through dozens of uses each.

I replaced all of my plastic storage with a set of glass storage last year. Now, I have a limited number of pieces and all of the lids are in the same drawer with the containers. Heaven! I donated my plastic storage to some young people just starting out. I even gave them some glass casserole dishes that I had accumulated over the years so that I would have room for a pristine set with lids.

I keep none; no Tupperware or similar brand. Can't stand the clutter. For leftovers I just use regular bowls or dishes and tinfoil or Saran Wrap. Easy peasy.

I now only get the ones that have the lids that snap on the bottom, never have to search for a lid now. All the old stuff went to my cleaning lady she does a lot of free cycle. A few went outside to feed the feral cats in.

That is my next scheduled chore getting rid of them I am no longer saving the nice plastic containers dairy thing come in. Have to check to see if they fit the recycle pickup standards

Ours do not sit the recycling parameters here. I try and recycle as much as possible.

I have mostly lock and lock containers,and they don't stack well without the lids... thus, lids on. :)

On the others, the ziplock containers, I store them with all the bowls on top of each other, and all the lids on top of them.

I don't have the cupboard space to store containers with the lids on, so - off. om s long skinny box next to the stack of containers. I do save other plastic containers that come with food I purchase and use those to take my lunch to work, send stuff home with the kids, etc. Like another said, I don't worry about getting the containers back then. Every couple of months I do have to clean out that cupboard, though. I have no idea how containers or lids end up without their mates, since they are always used together.

My Tupperware is nested. My square and odd item lids are in plastic hinged shoe boxes. My round lids are in the TW lid holders in my cupboard.

I have a lot of TW since I was a dealer way back in the dark ages.

If you leave the lids on empty TW leave them a bit loose so air will circulate.

I have 2 "pan" drawers in my kitchen. One for pans and the other for all plastic. don't know how I ever lived with plastic in cupboards before.

I bought a set of Rubbermaid containers with lids, which I keep together. Got rid of most of my Tupperware, and anything without lids or just lids, put in my donation bags. This state does not recycle much so much goes into trash.

I have a deep kitchen drawer devoted to lids. Works for me.

I replaced all my plastic for glass, too. But I keep the lids in a plastic container. I have a giant-sized storage container in the garage full of plastic and tupperware. Things like the cake keeper are way too big for me to store in the house. When I want to send leftovers home with my daughter, she gains one and I get rid of one!!

When BPA in plastics became a concern I gave away all of my old Tupperware and bought new Rubbermaid containers. The same size lids snap together and then snap on the base of the container, then all those containers nestle together with their lids.

My containers were so old they didn't even have the recycle numbers on the bottom. I often freeze home made soup, chili or meats for my kids so I wanted to avoid the BPA. It was reassuring to read that most plastics that are marked with recycle codes 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 are very unlikely to contain BPA.

I have all sizes and store them both ways. Some have lids on and some don't. I use mine all the time with having church dinners, family dinners and freezing things.

I have lots of cupboards...lids on everything

DD#4 gave me a set of the Rubbermaid and I did some reorganizing by throwing loads of older pieces in the recycle bin. The new set just fits into a basket in a cabinet. I also got a box of Kerr plastic lids for glass jars that I like. One DD pretty much just uses the latter in her fridge.

I'm with SuzieQue. I have only 3 LARGE rubbermaid ones.
used for marinating. Your also get BPA from your canned food too. They line the cans with it. It's worse with the tomato products. Also your cash register receipts are coated with it.

I am cleaning out all of my Tupperware and will be giving it away... Tired of the clutter... Just the disposables for me anymore..

I have been on a mission to get rid of the clutter in my kitchen cabinets. I cleared out all the old pots and pans, glasses, and other stuff I have not used since I moved here. I am going to get rid of the rest of the plastic ware and only have the rubbermade sets that have the lids that lock together and snap to the bottom of the containers, I bought one set to try and love them. I will keep some of the ziplock ones for giving food in them, will not worry about returns.

If looking for what to do with your discarded stuff consider using your local freecycle you may find someone with something that you would want to trade for. I give a lot of my stuff to my cleaning lady and she makes great use of it on freecycle. I am amazed by some of the things she gets on freecycle. We go through my clothes and closets too, she gets all kinds of things which she sells on craigslist, or gives on freecycle, she has made some extra money that way, and I have less clutter!!

Much of my plastic, that came with dairy stuff originally, nests, so I claim to be well stacked - most of the time.

I cut a side out of a plastic-coated boxboard, or plastic, milk box to hold the lids.

No plastic containers here. Have a few glass containers with lids, but for the most part use my Foodsaver to store leftovers etc.

I have two containers and four lids with no matches. How does this happen??!!! Argghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
