Kraft Catalina Dressing......

Have you noticed, they brought back the original? Why do these company's keep changing their products and make them worse. It was just awful, not its back :^) I love it.

It says "The taste is back" on the label.

We liked the Green Goddess and Creamy Italian by Seven Seas. I also loved their Red Wine Vinegrette, which was delicious over avocados. I really miss the Red Wine Vinegrette.

Sissyz, that looks like a great reward for snowblowing. Nancy, I haven't had a ham loaf for a while either. I usually get them already made up at the farmers' market and now am wanting one. Annie, I'd take that duck breast for dinner any time. Ann, here's the quickie cake recipe. This time, I made it without extra blueberries and added the grated zest of a small tangerine and substituted its juice for part of the liquid in the recipe. BLUEBERRY COFFEE CAKE 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar (can use part brown & part white or all white) 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick, sliced into 8 pieces) 1 package (18.25 oz.) Betty Crocker blueberry muffin mix with can of blueberries included 1 1/2 cups fresh or defrosted frozen blueberries 1 Tbs. juice from canned berries 2 tsp. lemon juice Mix first five ingredients thoroughly with your fingers to make crumbs and set aside. Drain can of blueberries, saving 1 Tbs. of juice. Make mix according to package directions, adding canned berries as directed. Spread in greased 8 inch square or round pan. Cover with the fresh blueberries and sprinkle with the 1 Tbs. of berry juice. Sprinkle with lemon juice and cover with crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool on a rack, if possible. Notes: You can make this without the fresh blueberries. Just make the mix as directed and add the crumbs without the blueberry or lemon juices. You can also add well-drained cut-up canned peaches to the top instead of the blueberries. It's peak tax return season so I'm working longer hours, although we've had some good meals this week - pulled pork BBQ, pasta with sausage sauce, shrimp and asparagus salad but no pix since my neighbor is using my camera for ebay photos.

People who like cumin in hummus can always add that to a separate batch, but you cannot remove it once it has been added. Here's my recipe: Lars' Hummus Ingredients 1/2 pound (1-1/3 c) dried garbanzo beans, (about 3 to 3-1/2 cups cooked) 1/3 to 1/2 cup lemon juice (or juice from two lemons) 3-4 medium cloves of garlic (more if small) 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup toasted sesame seed oil 1/2 cup tahini (toasted, if available) 2 tsp salt 1/8 tsp cayenne 1-1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper (or to taste) 1-2 tbsp water, if needed Directions Cook beans according to package instructions. I generally boil them for two minutes in a large pan, with triple height of water. Then I turn off the heat and soak for 1 hour covered and then wash them. Garbanzos will require about 2 hours to cook, after being soaked. After cooking, I rinse them twice with cold water to remove the cooking water. They will cook in about one hour if you add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the cooking water. Put the drained beans in a large food processor with the peeled garlic cloves (coarsely chopped) and the rest of the ingredients. Process until smooth. If it is too thick, thin with water, a tablespoon at a time. It is difficult to find tahini made from toasted sesame seeds, and this is why I add the toasted sesame seed oil. I make this recipe almost once a month, as Kevin likes it a lot. It's better when I have Meyer lemons to use, but they are not in season in my yard in late summer. I store tahini upside down in the refrigerator, so that the oil will be on the bottom, making it easier to stir together. It's very bad about separating. If you don't love garlic, you can reduce the amount of that. Lars

I googled Kraft slivered carrots and was it the one using Catalina dressing.? If so, it could be the dressing. Sometimes I have good Catalina dressing, and sometimes it just plain does not taste good. Not my favorite dressing.

SheilaJoyce, I make my own "Red Wine Vinaigrette" every time I make a salad. It's easy and yummy.

Crush 2-3 cloves of garlic into a small mixing bowl.

Add "glurps" of olive oil to the garlic; use however much oil you think you'll need to dress the size of salad you're making. I used about 1/2 cup of EVOO tonight.

Add cracked pepper and salt to taste; whisk mixture with a fork. You could add parsley, or any other herb you like also.

Slowly drizzle in the red wine vinegar. Use about 1/4 as much vinegar as you did oil. 1/2 cup oil, 1/8 cup of vinegar, more or less. Keep whisking until it emulsifies.

If I've added chopped apples to the salad, I add a tablespoon or so of sugar to the vinaigrette.

I try to make the dressing several hours before the meal. I let it sit out and come to room temperature. I toss and dress the salad right before putting it on the table.

I didn't know they had changed it but I suspected it. Catalina was my favorite when I was a kid but it disappointed me when I tried it later. It is very hard to find a bottled dressing, especially from the large brands (Kraft, Wishbone) that tastes good and I could swear that those dressings were better years ago. I just bought a bottle of Wishbone Russian dressing (the red one) and it was awful - nothing like I remember.

I can make my own dressing but I like the convenience of having a few different varieties in the fridge especially since we all have different preferences.

"They changed the taste and now its back to the orginial flavor."

Well duh. The question was WHAT did they change. What did they do to it? What is different now? What????

In the ketchup thread it was noted that Heinz is releasing their original recipe ketchup made with sugar, not to replace the current Heinz ketchup made with HFCS but to expand their line. Was it something like this with the Kraft Catalina? Or did they try using artificial sweetner? A new cheaper oil? WHAT?

Thank you for trying to help. The link did not say much and the comment section was just a lot of people saying it had changed. One poster said they replaced the sugar with soybean oil but that seems odd.

Here is the only listing of the ingredients with the nutritional label included but I can't find another one to compare 'old' with 'new'.

The only reason I am so focused on this is the fact that red French/Russian/Catalina dressing is is only type I purchase from a store. I don't want to buy a bottle of junk if they have changed it. I read labels on things I buy and I hate finding out that something I have been buying for years changed without alerting the consumer of the change. Who is going to re-read the labels on everything they buy, every single time they shop, to see if they changed something? Not me.

I make all my own creamy based dressing with goat yogourt and all my oil/vinegar based dressing. I have never been able to make a decent Catalina style dressing. I am at the mercy of Kraft.
