I'm in Shock....Sam's Club Closing

Sam's is closing 6 stores in Ont. One is close to us that we belong to. We love going there.

Walmart is expanding some of thier stores to Superstores, and building several Superstores this year. So they are closing Sams.

They all close in March.

Don't make me have a heart attack - I thought you meant ALL the Sam's Clubs were closing...

We love Sam's, we need Sam's. Sorry yours are closing.

I really don't want to be a whiner! I went out to mine 3 times today just to see WHAT was getting done. To GC's credit, he's busting his hump finishing all HIS stuff. The marble guy was there all day long and all he got done was the tub surround. Not sure if he OD'd on turkey, or what, but he's moving a little slow. Okay, so kel, on the bright side, I think I mentioned this before--we must believe that WHEN all the subs do as they should, that things will happen very quickly. Honestly, if you think about it, most subs like plumbers, electricians, really only need a few days to do their thing. SO, if all the stars align and the planets are in their houses...OR WHATEVER!!!!!!!! HAHA! I told DH I think the thing that really upsets me is I don't like being lied to. I don't appreciate subs making up excuses for why they didn't do their job when they were supposed to do it. If you ain't coming, just say, "I ain't coming". Don't make up some lame excuse why! UGH. I also have slowly, but surely, figured out that if a sub should be at your house and he's not, he sure enough isn't going to answer the phone! My build really has been okay up until now. I have found the whole process pretty gratifying, actually. But now that we're down to the wire, we just don't have the luxury of take our sweet time to do things and I'm exhausted. Living in chaos is such a drain and I'm ready for things to calm down and get back to boring ol' family life! I will say a prayer for all of us and hopefully sleep tonight, knowing that tomorrow is another day...full of promises.

Must keep it. and I burst out laughing about the shamwow :) blackthumb, you are hereby renamed wetblanket :) (I usually put plastic down if I'm painting a lot [which saved us when DH backed into a roller tray full of paint once], but I was just doing a little finishing touchup today, so I scooted some newspapers under the door area to catch any drips.) natesgramma, I also definitely have a pair of pants I use when painting -- they have a significantly higher proportion of Brandon Beige on them now... yogacat...yogacat... And the slow-motion time you talk about groomingal in your highly dramatic rendering of the new-member-hazing -- I SO remember it from today -- we both have great reflexes because I almost (*almost*) caught mine again after my hand just froze and dropped it. Unfortunately the catch turned into a flip to keep a *little* of the paint in the can, but in the process of flipping it, I sprayed it out in an arc even further (onto the wood furniture). trailrunner, I just want to reach back in time and come help you; I can just imagine a pregnant mama collapsing in tears over what happened... And bronwynsmom, as soon as the paint spilled, one of our cats came trotting over to see what the commotion was. I said "Get away" in a somewhat urgent voice and she left, thank *goodness* or we would have had little beige artifacts all over the carpet in the other room...

"I have never felt it really was a blended family, more like two families living under the same roof." You're right, it's not a family. I think in order for a blended family to be successful there has to be one set of rules for everyone in the house. The two parents should come to an agreement on these rules and apply to them ALL kids the same. It sounds like in this situation what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. While you have no problem with your husband correcting your kids, he has a problem with you correcting his. When the two of you discussed getting married, did you discuss family rules and how discipline would be handled? If not, I doubt there's anything you can do to save your marriage and why would you? Sounds like your husband has reached his limit. He's already kicked you out because he said he's warned you for three years not to interfere with his kids but you continue to do so, your daughter is suffering as well, she stays in her room all evening when she gets home from school. And it seems you are stressed out seeing your husband's kids heading down the wrong path. Why subject yourself to more stress? I think you are better off without him and his family. Your husband seems fine with his kids behavior, so why would you subject yourself and your kids to more of the same?

That is a shock!

Sam's and Super WalMart are planning to build new stores (to replace the old ones) in our city. The land was cleared last summer and the building is to begin this Spring.

I would hate to have those close.

Do you have Costco in the area? I wonder if there was already competition for that type of store.

Yep, Costco is here as well. They do a better business than Sam's but we really preferred Sam's.

Is the one in Pickering closing? I wouldn't be surprised as there is a Costco a few minutes down the road. My sister would be a very happy camper if Lowe's went in there.

What a shame! I don't have a Sam's membership any more, since I live over 400 miles from the nearest one, but I ALWAYS had a membership when I lived in MN.

Barbara, Yes the one in Pickering is closing. Vaughan, all the stores. Lowes has their bid in for some of the stores.

They may as well here for no more that goes there anymore. You really have to watch what your buying to come out ahead. I use to get the lg. container of electrasol dish washer soap and it's now sold at Walmart for same size and price.

We need our Sam's! I'd be in mourning if ours closed. It's always busy, so I don't think there's much chance of that!

Canadians take note: We went to Sam's today, just to get a few things that we normally buy. The store is closing on Sunday. We were hard-pressed to get a parking spot, and all the check-out lineups were all the way to the back of the store!

We got some real bargains though. Bittersweet. We got milk for $2.71 (4 litres) when the regular price is $3.88. My kitty litter is regularly $7.44 and we got it for $5.58. All the meat, produce and dairy was discounted. We picked up some more back ribs.
Paper towels regularly $14, were $11. We're going back on the 9th when it re-opens for a week of clearance sales.

Well I am one who wouldn't miss any of these admission-charging stores. I had a membership for several years but quit. Just didn't make sense. Could get better deals elsewhere and not go through the hassles. It just plain irritates me to have to PAY the place to walk in there, then if you buy something you stand in line for 45 min, then have to walk 10 feet and check out again to leave!

Gotta give old Sam Walton credit though, he cashed in on people's greed and stupidity. People will complain about non-union and everything with a pocket full of Walmart reciepts! Tell them they're getting a deal and you can charge them anything. Some believe they actually NEED a 5 gallon pail of peanut butter on the shelf! And you don't even have to give them a bag or help them carry it out! He definitely changed retail. Not for the "good", in my opinion, but he definitely changed it forever.

They are refunding memberships. Ours didn't get renewed. It was due in January, and we were never asked to renew it at the till.

Cynic, I only bought stuff that could store a long time...paper products, etc. Meat for the freezer. Cat food and litter. CD cases. There are only the 2 of us, so I didn't buy a gallon of mayonnaise, etc. But I will still miss this store.
Walmart sells kitty litter, but it's much more expensive for their Kitty Select, than the Members Mark. It will be sorely missed.

Cynic, we agree with you--somehow the idea of paying for the privilege of shopping at a store just doesn't appeal to us. We did visit a Sam's Club once with one of those courtesy passes that "allows" you to look around and even buy (with a 10% markup on the price).
We found the selection to be average and the prices comparable to the grocery and other stores that we frequent. We were not impressed.
