it gets worse!!

So as I am peeling and cutting and boiling the jams, I have a pot of soup going...heading toward corn chowder with some of the last of the fresh Iowa corn.

Water....smoked neck bones, onion, celery, green pepper, a little carrot....4 ears of corn ( well just the corn...not the whole ear!) a potato, couple of cans of chicken broth, thyme, salt, pepper....tasting,,, needs something...add more pepper...nope still needs something...green chiles? YES!

Open the cupboard and find a 4 oz can, open it up, notice that it doesn't look like the green chiles I usually use, dump it into the pot, look closely at the can to see what brand it it.....and notice that it's CHOPPED JALAPENOS!!!!!

Well...the soup is definitly noteworthy....really very good...but also very hot!

I added an extra potato, a little more salt, some cream....and it seems to have softened....but I will be careful who I serve it to...

Guess I'll clean up the kitchen and go directly to bed....do not pass go...etc...

Surely I'm not the only one????

Oh Linda, sometimes we get so busy and rushed we forget to focus! But that soup sounds really good! If you freeze it, will it mellow or get hotter, I wonder?

Clean up and have a drink and go to bed! I am on my way too!

Heck, I don't know, I'm in the process of canning stewed tomatoes.

I'm going now to double check that I put everything in, LOL. Not that there's anything I could do, now it's all in the pressure canner...

Thanks all, NC is in a state of emergency due to all this rain. When my pots are outside I never use saucers and they're elevated a couple inches on wheeled plant stands.. I was nervous because of the fungus gnat infestation. We knocked those out with an insecticide/fungicide. I brought them inside my porch and will wait a week and bring them in the house in their favorite south facing windows. i did go out and get all the ingredients for the 5-1-1 and all but the granite for the 1-1-1. I really appreciate all your help. I was up at 3 am thinking about those poor trees in the pouring rain and couldn't get back to sleep. Geez, you would think they were my kids or dogs :-)

Pygmy Dates getting worse, why??

Hello all! I purchased and planted a trio of pygmy date palms roughly eight months ago. They have been doing fine until the past couple of weeks. I've been doing research but still can't figure out what exactly is wrong. Fertilizing them a few weeks ago just made it worse. They turned orange before browning, if that helps. Also, I'm on the gulf coast in Texas, zone 9. Any help will be appreciated :)

Is it getting any natural light? so you took it out of the pot and repotted again into different soil? in the current pic, the soil looks very peat heavy and wet. I think the roots started to rot when you repotted. Putting it back in its original pot was recommended, but since you repotted into another heavy soil, it’s probsbly rotting again, unfortunately. im not sure if there’s much hope. I’d personally remove all soil from the roots, prune rotted roots and put it in a mix of 70% perlite with 30% soil into a pot just barely big enough to fit the roots. Put in a bright window and hope for the best.

Thanks so much everyone ! I‘ve been reading more about marble all day and it did lighten up by the afternoon. I tried to just use my gentle natural dish soap to wipe/wash away any remnants of anything left on it and as soon as the water went back on these spots it looks dark again! Now that it’s dried out it looks like this ..... its much better but still a bit stained. Should I try to get the stain out again ? Worried I might make it worse - can that happen? Anyone had luck with baking soda for longer? I did read it should be for 24 hours but I left the paste on overnight and flipped out when I checked on it this morning and it was so dark plus I read baking soda can be abrasive. Or should I just seal it and use my metal decorative tray going forward and accept this level of staining.

That's the soup you divide up and add it to other dishes to spice them up. Take care and have a good evening.

I did that with 2 cans of chopped jalapenos once, making mexican chili, instead of chopped green chilies. DH loved it because it was scotching hot. Now I take a permanent marker and mark "HOT" on the top of the can before it goes in the pantry.

I made TriciaÂs To Go muffins today and didnÂt forget anything. They didnÂt rise as much as I thought they would but tasted real yummy. I think I will buy some new baking powder and see what happens. Mine is not out of date but I have had it for over a year so who knows. It was 102 here today and DH now knows I have lost it. Turned up the AC and turned on the oven. I just needed to bake something!

Thanks....checking....fingers, toes....seems to all be there...but the brain may be something else!
Labelling "HOT" is a good thing...I once tried to "stretch out" a pan of home made spaghetti sauce for some drop in company....wanted to add a jar of Paul Neuman's but instead added a jar of salsa...hot variety!
Took the can of Paul's sauce and a big can of tomato puree to make it edible.....and I then had a lot of left over spicy sauce!
Trying to decide if I should get more corn, add more celery and onions and generally double the quantity of the soup....or just freeze it and label it "HOT".

speaking of making soup, when I first got married (back in the '70's), I made some home made vegetable beef soup. There was a frozen food outlet about an hours drive away that we had gone to a couple of times. I bought a bag of what I "thought" were sliced carrots. All I could think of was "great, I don't have to wash, peel and slice carrots!" Well, I put those sliced orange things in my soup to find out later that they were sliced sweet potatoes!!!! So what did I make, Sweet Potato Vegetable Beef soup?? LOL

LOL Well at least yours was edible. I was making French toast a few weeks ago and really goofed. Now I should have known better than to try to cook before I had my second cup of coffee but.... Everything was going fine until I went to add the vanilla extract. I inadvertently grabbed the liquid smoke instead of the vanilla. I realized it as soon as the aroma hit my nose....yep you guess it....AFTER I added it to the egg mixture!

EWW!!! Reminds me of once when I added a teaspoon of hot pepper oil to some brownies...I could scoop most of it out and it didn't permeate the batter like liquid smoke would do....and I added lots ofr eal vanilla and a bit of cinnamon to mask the flavor....but did get a couple of...

I've learned a long time ago not to do any cooking before I've had my first cup of coffee, who knows how many things I've goofed up because I wasn't completely awake...oh yeah ask my DH he loves to remind me.
