Another attempt to get out of ABB
Comments (89)Don't know what happened to my post. Mom2sulu - I'd say the white subway was a tad whiter than cabinet. I'm currently looking at subway ceramics' Avalon tile. If I looked at heritage tile before, none of the samples worked. I've looked/bought samples for so many tiles, I no longer can remember. I think this Avalon one might be the one. I've been turned off by the yellow or pinkish undertones; this Avalon one is 'just there' w/ no noticeable undertones when under cabinet lighting. Hope the tile is fairly priced. The designer that was here the other day said it doesn't look inexpensive. Ugh. If it gets the backsplash off the checklist I may have to bite the bullet, but I'm beyond spending lots more $$ on kitchen. i don't know how herringbone subway behind stove and the rest of backsplash being the brick layout, would look. Another dilemma. p.s. The Avalon tile is smooth matte...See MoreHelp with another two-tone kitchen: white uppers + stained lowers
Comments (54)stephanj - yup, DIY projects will certainly test a marriage! ;) Another decision change here: since those two upper cabs over micro/fridge are on the opposite side of the kitchen and separate from my planned white cabs by the sink/window, I think I'm going to have those stained, too. That way, if I decide to do a full white on that accent wall, the stained cabinets may provide some nice contrast...just more thinking out loud. Re: BS, thankfully, we'd be adding only 12 sq ft by extending it to the top. Does that still qualify it as giant? :) Maybe the space just looks larger in the photo. I did my nerd thing last night, actually. :) Know what? It's a necessary step to take, and I promise it'll make you feel much less overwhelmed -- I know I do. Are you getting new cabinets or just reorganizing where things will go? If the former, here's another super, super helpful thread just on the topic of drawers. Scroll down about halfway, til you get to: This was such an eye opener for me, as up to now, I was applying vertical storage concepts only to pizza pans and cookie sheets. I was up and down out of my chair all night, measuring all my glass baking pans, casseroles, etc. Now I have to go weigh items (that I plan on storing in the same drawer) to see if I'll need to upgrade the drawer hardware -- knowing me, I will, just to be on the safe side. And absolutely LOVING this: Can you smell another DIY around the corner?! Because of the current configuration of my island and the way the downdraft ducting and electrical is set up down there, I'm going to end up with a (get this!) space in the left/front that measures 30" high x 24 wide x 12" deep. Goofy/Wasted space (I think) to put a stack of drawers there (each one would have, what, about 10" front-to-back length of usable space?). I wanna hang one of these across the top of the space (so, sitting just under the granite top), and hang my everyday skilles, pots, etc. off here. I wonder if these hooks are on a sliding rail: how cool would THAT be, to accommodate pans/pots of varying heights?!...See MoreHelp! So many white spots on my honed black granite...
Comments (13)The marks you see are physical etching to the surface from by the looks either a strong bleach product or drain cleaner. Why it is getting worse, we would say that someone has repaired or attempted to hide the marks using a bandaid solution . By adding some like like baby oil or white oil to the surface. This will disguise the issue for a short period though as you clean the surface it will dissolve the oils out and leaving the white spots or marks again. Being Matte you will be able to use a special microporosity impregnating sealer that will solve the issue. Other than having it properly repaired by a stonemason. You will need to do the following steps Clean the entire countertops with acetone. Remove any contamination on grante Apply the Ager to the white spots or marks first with kitchen paper Allow to penetrate for 5 minutes Apply the Ager to the whole countertop - this will make it uniform in colour Allow to penetrate for 5 mintue Follow the directions on the tin to remove excess Allow to cure out, you can speed this process up with a hair dryer. The products you will need are Acetone - 1 Quartz Tenax Ager Clean white cloth Kitchen Paper or Towel If you get stuck or would like more information email us at stains@stonebenchtopcleaner.com.au Uniblack is the wrong product to use in this application will make it blacker in areas and patchy being honed or leathered granite, the acetone will take this back out....See MoreNeed to remove grease stain from granite
Comments (18)That should work. If it doesn't try a poultice of plaster of paris and acetone. Cover with plastic wrap with blue tape around it until it's dry. Cover at least an inch around larger than the stain. When it's dry, the stain should be better, if not completely gone. If it's working, do it again until resolved. Found this answer here at Houzz. Our granite was sealed when it was installed, but we found that it stained easily. We resealed with Tenax Pro Seal after pulling the stain out. We haven't had a problem since....See MoreUser
