What's your opinion on O'Brien? (Downton Abbey)

Do you think she could be the guilty party in the murder of Vera? She took great satisfaction in letting Vera know that Bates had returned to Downton. But later she had a guilty look on her face about how things turned out. Could she have felt bad about it and killed Vera to make amends to Bates and Anna? Or maybe Sir Richard is behind it all because of "the scandal"?

But we can't forget the soap incident.

And Thomas is such a snarky twit. But do I see some change in him, you think? One thing I don't understand is the friendship between O'brien and Thomas. What do you they have in common other than trouble-making?
