counter height for crafting in the laundry room
Comments (1)My opinion - If you plan on living in the house for a very long time, you can do what works best for you. If you think you'll ever sell it, be warned that customizing it too much can hurt the resale. If the house will be sold in the future, the bottom of the cabinet you install should be 52" up from the floor. That's the clearance we have and it gives my W/D one inch of wiggle room. We spent a small fortune remodeling our laundry room this year, before we bought front-load W/D and matching pedestals. I have to have the pedestals due to a bad lower back since I was 30 y/o. If I were buying a house and it was a toss-up between one I had to spend $$$$ on to remodel for my W/D or one that requires no changes, I'll take the path of least resistance. Comments (2)Hi pps7! I have a wood countertop in my laundry room, so if it's weird, I'm weird right along with you! It's not IKEA (only because my nearest big box home improvement store happened to have what I needed when I needed it), but I'd have no qualms about using the Lagan or the Numerar in the laundry room. Joining the countertop runs isn't technically difficult-- all it requires is a biscuit joiner, biscuits, wood glue and clamps. It does require some care, though, to get a tight, even seam. Either Waterlox or plain tung oil would work fine to finish, though my choice would probably be Waterlox (the polymers provide a better barrier against chemical spills, and we are pretty messy). I wouldn't expect that you'd have to reapply Waterlox for years. Good luck with your build!...See MoreLaundry Room Counters - Does anyone care about the rules here?
Comments (12)Lots of people do stupid things that don’t comply with design best practices. Like a 400 lb on top of a laundry set that needs to be pulled out and cleaned regularly. Or an incorrecyly sized standpipe subject yonivethlow because they didn’t want it to show above the washing machine. Or other very silly form over function decisions....See MoreCan I make this a seated counter top ? New Construction question
Comments (24)In the first plan, I do like the closet placement in the master, but both bedrooms limit furniture placement. The Second plan makes furniture placement more flexible. It is unfortunate that as you walk in from the front door, you see the kItchen before anything else; at least the first plan leads you through the labyrinth to a view out the windows. And in the second, entering from the garage forces you to walk around to the bedrooms. If you could combine the half-bath and full-bath, you could have the laundry also be a walk-through to the bedrooms (and I just love having circulation opportunities in a house)....See Morepricklypearcactus
