How many mirrors are too many?

Just a "survey" if you will....how many mirrors are okay to hang? For example, I have a large mirror above my couch, which I love, and would like to hang the old one in the entryway. My entry is very small and you can see the living room to the right from there as you enter the house. Would it be too much to have another mirror in there? They would basically be on the same side (same wall) with a wide doorway in between.

Do you have a picture? do they have the same frame? i would think as long as they're a little different it would like fine.

don't have a pic, but yes, they are very different. The one in the LR is very simple and large, the one I am thinking about for the entry is pretty ornate.

Five was way way too many. This was because two cats were dumped off at me when I already had three. The owners were friends who couldn't move into their new housing with their cats (they were foreclosed out of their house and had to move to an apartment that would work for their autistic daughter - but alas allowed no pets). I wanted to move the cats to a no-kill shelter, but there was a three plus month waiting list. So, I kept them. It was way too many because the first three and the second two did not REMOTELY get along. Ever. I tried everything. Okay, Serenity (my oldest cat at nearly 17.5 years) would, and still does, get along with everyone -- but the other four??? Naw. I had to keep some in the basement, some upstairs. We all hated this. At the moment, I have two cats. Three would be fine at a maximum, but they all have to at least tolerate each other!!!!

How many exterior finishes is too many?

Hi, Nicole, You're right to be concerned about mixing materials on the exterior of your home. Our rule of thumb is to limit the exterior materials to a maximum of three. That said, simply limiting the number of different materials doesn't guarantee the combination is pleasing. If you have sufficiently thick skin, you can always post alternative elevations here on houzz.com for comments.

Sometimes one space isn't big enough to fit all of our ideas. Save some for your next house. :-) It's important for us to know if the floor is going to change or you're keeping it. I am having trouble envisioning that shade of green with that floor, and adding marble and brick would be too much for my taste. I think marble and/or brick is only going to work if the floor is changed. It is pretty busy on its own. I also don't see why you need to paint all of the cabinetry in the adjacent rooms if you paint the kitchen cabinets. If you're still planning on moving in the not too distant future I would just replace the counter, but not with marble, something calmer, because the floor is making a statement. If you aren't planning on moving at all for quite a while then I guess there's no reason not to go crazy with what you like, but think on it for a while before jumping into anything. Painting cabinets is a lot of work when you do it right.

How many Dahlia shoots from a tuber are too many in a pot?

I have had dahlias rot to death in prior years with our incessant rains so I have started with very small pots and am up potting as the roots fill up the pots. They have just been put into gallon pots. If all goes well they will have a 10" (2.7 gallon) pot at most. I ended up taking out 4 of the weaker shoots. I have next to no luck with rooting any cutting except in water so they are sitting in a vase for now. Here what the bunch of 8 looked like.

Sitting here in my LR, I count 3 I can see.........a bronze metal mirror on wall leading to entry, an enormous framed mirror hung over my rattan sofa, and a small antique mirror (12"x16") hung over my barnwood cabinet. There's a red floral framed large mirror on the wall into the kitchen, but I can't see it from here.

Oh! I can play this game. This is too many mirrors. :-)

(Fireplace pre-mirror removal. New design is still being decided.)

I have a lot of mirrors... I love them because they reflect light around. They are also less expensive than art.

I have a collage of mirrors over my living room sofa, and a uniquely shaped smaller one on another wall that has an interesting frame. I also have another, smaller collage in my entryway, and yet another one on a shelf near my front door. Then, I have one over my fireplace in my family room as well as one over my couch in same room.

Each mirror is very different, and all are part of groupings. Again, I like them because they spread light around and my house seems a bit dark to me. I swear I'm not looking at myself all the time! ;)

Thanks for those great pics! I do love mirrors, and none of yours are overkill, so I think I'm good to go!
