First baby hatched!

at the Berry College eagle cam. They had two eggs. One hatched about 4 hours ago. Mom and Dad are both there right now feeding it.

My DIL has been spying on a bald eagle that she noticed before her 2 babies were hatched. Such beauty!

Katlan, I've been watching our GA Berry College Eagle cam too. Isn't that baby adorable? Just a little ball of gray fuzz. It just amazes me how the parents so carefully walk so as not to step on the eggs and now on the baby.

I would say yes. The first year I hatched my own chicks and when they were old enought to be without the heating lamp I put them out with the other chickens and they kept pecking at them so I took them back inside. I had to build another area outside for them. We made it next to the other chickens so they would be able to see each other all them time so when they were the same size they wouldn't fight. It seemed to work pretty well. I did wake up one morning to a dead chicken that they had pecked to death. Hope this helps.

^^^ Hahaha...I once had to buy eggs at the market while my girls were molting, I brought them home and made a point to show the eggs to the girls to remind them what they looked like. Laying started up again shortly thereafter. :) Well...we checked both incubators and candled the eggs we could see into last night. A lot of them were clear, especially the Polish eggs. :( But I don't see my Polish ladies getting much action from my roos, the dumb boys! Other eggs have chicks, but I could not tell if they were alive or not, and how fully formed they are. No peeping or activity yet from any of the eggs, but they aren't due to hatch until beginning at 8PM Saturday night. If none of these hatch, I don't know what to think...I know that both of my roo boys are getting their job done and I don't think they have fertility issues, they are healthy fellas. We did change locations for the incubators this year, to my dining room table, in a corner of a room away from windows and doors to help protect from drafts. I THOUGHT I had a great spot, but if this batch doesn't work I'm going back to putting the darned things in the kitchen. :( On top of everything else, we are having weird weather here since yesterday, supposed to continue until Tuesday--wind, rain/hail, and tornadoes, of all things! If the power goes out, I have my broody hen contingency plan...Bear, Splash and Blue are all broody and would get to sit on the eggs. :) We checked the cam last night and have it all set up and ready to go, if hatching begins we'll fire it up and I'll notify everyone. Time will tell! Velvet !:>

It amazes me also. When they were feeding the baby last night and again this morning, it's surprising how big of a bite they give the little guy!

Very cute for sure. A little wobbly fuzz ball. I hope the other egg hatches also.

I hope the other egg hatches soon too. I was so afraid that little one was going to choke to death on those big pieces of food it was being fed.

Katlan, you might also enjoy watching Santa's Reindeer Cam. It is up all year round and located in Michigan. Right now there is a little deer laying in the feeding trough. LOL I also saw a squirrel running around and two large turkeys. I love checking this out.

If anyone wants to see the baby and the 2nd egg, mama just flew off the nest and they are visible right now!

First of all, thanks for forwarding the link. I found this out during nighttime. After that, every time I remember to check them out, it has been at nighttime too. So, all I've seen was mom eagle tucked her head behind asleep. That is until today.

I made a note to turn on the computer early to watch the eagles. It has been wonderful to be able to watch something up close that we otherwise could not see up at that level.

The mom eagle was out of the nest by the food. She was feeding herself and was preparing food to feed the baby. It was interesting. It seemed like she picked and chose the meaty portion of the food for the baby, she ate the bony parts.

I had to share this funny moment. While the mom was preparing the food, I saw something white literally shoot out horizontally from the baby and landed outside the nesting area at the edge of the nest. The baby pooped! LOL, I have never seen a bird pooped like that before. Such a tiny creature that operated like a shotgun. Yikes!

I just read on the site that the other egg is not viable, meaning it won't hatch. How sad, but at least the eagle couple have one healthy and cute little offspring who is really growing. I would think the parents would just shove that egg out of the nest. I just love watching these eagles.

Yes I am Linda. So is DH! haha I saw the baby poop when it was about a day old. Wow! shot out like a cannon, hahaha. I'm sad the other egg isn't going to hatch.....

Baby pooped today, like you said, shot out like a cannon. LOL The head is getting whiter and whiter and he sure has a good appetite. I say "he" because I think it is a male....it "yawns" just like the daddy eagle. LOL
