This just can't be happening again~

My brother was admitted to the hospital this afternoon with something wrong with his heart and can't get his breath....oh God, not again in my family~~~ I don't think I can even bring myself to walk back into a hospital right now, let alone see him hooked up to so many wires, etc.

My skimmer is totally different. So don't know if what I do would work for you. I know it works for me, but there will be bunches of people here on the forum that will disagree. I removed the door and in the slot where the door would go I put a piece of the black (coarsest) Matala mat Then I have 3 baskets that hold filter mats and then the pump is in the rear. My skimmer pulls anything that is floating in the pond and it catches in the Matala Mat, I just take it out and hose it off. I also take the baskets out with the other filter media and hose them off at least once a week sometimes more if I need to. With all the gunk I wash out of the mats, it has to be working. Then after the water goes through all this media it goes to the waterfall. I was having a problem with fish getting in the skimmer. And I actually cut a hole in the top of the skimmer so the frogs can get in there. A frog could never go through my pump and go through to the waterfall. My pump has a filter on it and nothing gets through there unless it is miniscule.And when I remove the baskets of filter media to wash it, I can see the bottom of the skimmer and if there was anything in there I could see it. I have never had a subscription to a cooking magazine - the only subscription I did have was to Illuminatrice, an Italian lighting magazine, and that was at work. The only magazines that I buy at the newsstand are Italian design magazines, some of which are quite expensive (I used to buy men's Italian fashion magazines, when I was more fashionable), and I have saved every one of them. I also buy Architectural Digest, Interiors, Veranda, etc. when they publish photos of my furniture designs, and I keep these also. My old magazine collection takes up one shelf in my garage, and I do refer to the Italian magazines from time to time for inspiration. I do collect clutter, but books and magazines are not part of that. I have one shelf of cookbooks in the hall next to the kitchen. I once bought a magazine on Feng Shui, but I decided that the magazine was clutter and got rid of it. I spent last week-end trying to declutter my bedroom because I also bought a new mattress that will be delivered tomorrow, and I want my room to look nice. Yesterday I made a runner with the fabric left over from making new drapes for my bedroom (to be able to block out light) and put it on the wide dresser beside my bed. The dresser on the other side of my bed has a runner I made from fabric left over from when I made my bedspread. I find that decorating or trying to coordinate rooms helps me get rid of clutter. However, I did put a bunch of books on the wide dresser using bookends. I don't have room for another bookcase. If I need to get more books, I will get rid of old ones that I have. Lately I have been buying and reading books on Anthropology and early human evolution. I read them at night to help me get to sleep, and so it takes a while to get through them. I cannot stand to watch Hoarders, but I will watch Clean House if I need inspiration to declutter. Making my house and yards look as beautiful as possible is one of my top priorities, and this helps me let go of clutter. I haven't gotten rid of it altogether, however, and so I think it is an on-going process. I have a hard time getting rid of old clothes that no longer fit, and I am convinced that sometime in the near future, they will fit again. Anyway, that is my goal. They may be terribly out of style or inappropriate by that time, however. Getting rid of old clothes is my biggest problem. One of the things I came across yesterday while decluttering was a printout from a Cooking Forum thread from 2005 that I started asking what was in everyone's freezer. It included a post by Ann_T on pitahaya (I happened to have some in my freezer at the time) that she had copied and pasted, bad Google translation and all. The translation was hysterically funny. Its not the size of the town, but the people who work there. Have you read about the "Koss" case? Koss is a maker of popular headphones. Their lady executive stole millions over several years before it was detected. She took enough to jepordize the survival of the company. She did not "need" the money, but wanted to live high and apparently is a kleptomaniac. She stayed away from people's personl belongings, but the company coffer was fair game. She also had a 'thing' for shoes - had 400 pairs of expensive shoes and some had been worn only once. Some of the money she stole was used to make big gifts to charities, apparently not for good will, but to put on a show of wealth.

I'm so sorry, Phoggie. I sure hope you have some good news for us in the morning. It would be really hard for you to go to the hospital, but if you could go and see that he will be okay, it may make you feel better. But you would have to go with a positive attitude so you don't make him and family feel bad. Know what I'm trying to say? Whatever you decide, your brother is in my prayers.

I'm so, so sorry. I know you don't feel strong enough to deal with all this but it's amazing what we can do when we have to. The strength seems to come out of nowhere. ((((Mary)))).

Mary, I don't know what to say except I'm praying for you and your family. I truly hope that your brother will be o.k. You will get through this. Like others have said, it's amazing what we can actually do when we have to.

maybe making a quick trip, so bro know you're there, then go home, and rest...at least you'll have seen him for yourself, and won't worry as much...

or do like i do and take an extra long shower and pretend the water is washing away all the stress...now that works wonders...water has been my stress reducer for years...

I just visited with my SIL and she said that DB is resting now that they have taken off some of the tubes they had him connected to. He has A-fib and a rapid heart rate...they are increasing some meds and hoping it will stay stable. He is in good spirits....but laughing and kidding are his way of coping.

I have not gone down....it is a 2 hour drive each way...and he is trying to get all the rest he can....but as everyone knows, the hospital is not the place to get any rest~~

Thanks for your good wishes....but at the time it happened, all I could think of was that it was my DH all over again....and that is still so fresh in my mind.

I get along pretty well during the week, but oh my the week-ends are so terribly lonely....but grief is something that everyone has to work through at their own pace.

Gosh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this emotional difficulty right on top of your husband's passing. Are you trying to stay fairly busy (especially on the weekends,) or is it still too difficult? Each in her/his own time. I'm glad to see they have a handle on your db's condition--sounds like it's not as dire as it first was and you can bet they won't let him go until he's very stable and on the right meds. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

DH did not get to come home as they hoped...they are taking more tests. He is in a "small town hospital" and a cardiologist comes from over 100 miles away ONCE a week. He doesn't want to go to a different hospital....stubborn man! Personally, I do think he had a heart attack...maybe only a mild one, but he had all of the symptoms that DH had when he had his, only not nearly as severe.
