I get emails from KMart and there was a link to mygofer. I'm looking for a bedspread so I went there and found one I might like.

But I'm always leery of sites I'm not familiar with.

Apparently this one is connected to KMart and Sears.

Sue, I am pretty new to internet shopping. Being getting around is getting more difficult, it is easier to buy with a click of the button---so to speak. We even finally got our first charge card for this purpose. (actually it is a debit card with it's own back acct. so if it is stolen there is a limit how much can be taken, and also a limit of $100, and a limit of $100 on any one purchase) But I am very careful where I do business, though. What kind of merchandise is on mygofer.com?

I don't trust the internet for homegoods, like a bed spread. I want to see, feel, touch a bedspread before I buy it. what if it arrives and the color isn't exactly what you expected? You have to call the company, pack it up, pay postage and return it. Too much for me. I'd be tempted to toss it in a drawer and forget about it.

Many times. I have had men follow me from store to store in the mall. I have had men follow me while I'm walking my dog. In my previous home, there was a neighbor that did this. I knew he knew where I lived, so this bothered me more than when it was random men, I would just keep walking around until they gave up and went away rather than lead them home. I have had men physically block me from walking away from them (say, in a bar I'm at the bar getting drinks for me and friends, he will position his body to block me from walking away). When I was a waitress, I had a customer (not a regular, even, someone I'd never met before) ask me for a ride somewhere else after work. I declined. When he left, he hung around in the parking lot (this was at midnight when we were closing) until the owner went out there and made him leave. I once had a regular obscene phone caller. He would sometimes call early in the morning while I was asleep, so I was kind of groggy trying to figure out who was calling. One of those times, I asked who is this, he gave a name (steve or something), I said who, he said we met at a gas station (he described the one near my house) and I gave him my number. Never happened, and it worried me he'd picked a spot so near to where I lived that we had supposedly met... did he know where I lived? As far as I know, I've never had someone actually follow me in my car. I'm not afraid to go out alone, but I'm sure there are plenty of men who have been offended because I will walk away from someone I feel is being overly familiar and starting to invade boundaries. And I'm also quite sure most of them don't mean any harm, but most men, have not had similar experiences with women (and the ones who have, probably haven't been by someone a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier than them) and don't understand that there ARE plenty of men out there who are scary and threatening and we have reasons to be wary. Especially younger guys, I think older ones have in many cases heard enough stories from wives, girlfriends, and female friends to get it a little bit.

Bee, yes. That is the company. I actually considered the Claudia, which is the same as the Chloe but in leather, when purchasing but went with the Blair instead since it was much more comfortable and better suited for everyday use. The reviews online are great and one of the sales people(not the person selling it to me) even told me that he had never had complaints in the many years that they have carried that line. That had to be a blatant lie. In less than a year I have gone through three of these sofas (my story with them is a loooong one) - three different issues. As I said, I did not expect the sofa to last me a lifetime, but I certainly expected more than six months of use from it. I would not advise anyone to purchase furniture from this company. You may have a wonderful experience with the sofa, but you may also have a year of nightmares which will end in you having to find a replacement. I have found many sites with complaints about their furniture - after my problems began and I performed a search of course. If you do decide to go ahead with the purchase and happen to have problems that the regular furniture and bedding customer service will not help you with, let me know and I will be more than happy to give you their corporate customer service number. Had I not called corporate, I would probably still be waiting on a replacement cushion on the sleeper sofa (same Blair group) that was originally purchased. The up-side is that I get to hang on to their dreadful sofa until the replacement is delivered. I am scared of buying anything new regardless of the manufacturer, because you just never know. I am very tempted to buy an older (retro/vintage) sectional and have it reupholstered. I have seen a few that I like. My thought is that if it lasted for 20 years or more and is still in great shape, then it will probably last another 20.

Ok, three of my favorite voices around here--Palimpsest, Ideefixe and Oakleyok--have pretty well covered all the bases, but just to recap... The three biggest causes of Decorating Remorse--other than watching TV decorating shows & wishing you had done something other than what you already did, I mean--are Being in too big a hurry & buying something just to have something (rather than have nothing), Worrying about inconsequential stylistic labels & categories, and Buying brand new pieces. I did without a sofa for five years rather than buy something merely to be have something to sit on, I don't worry about what style supposedly goes with what, and I never buy anything new. Well, almost never. The most expensive thing in my house is an early 19th century sofa, for which I forked over 850 of my hard-earned dollars, and the two-months-long diet of peanut-butter sandwiches that paid for it was worth every bite. The second-most-expensive thing I ever bought was also the only thing I've ever bought new: a gigantic 3-piece arched mirror set out of a popular catalog that looked very handsome in the photo but which turned out to be a piece--well, three pieces--of junk, which I should have predicted, since, Hello!, it was in a popular catalog. All I can say is I must have been on Nyquil that day. Anyway, I seldom make mistakes, but when I do, I don't brood & beat myself up over them, so I hauled them down to the service entrance lobby of my building and in a few hours, they were gone. I LOVE going to Pawn Shops (one in particular because they have such great deals.) So yes..I have bought from Pawn Shops and I have Pawned/Sold stuff. Got kind of a "Miracle" story to share. Many years ago, I was hot and heavy into doing the counted cross-stitching. A freind came over one day and told me that Walmart had all their X-Stitch supplies on sale! I was BROKE...but knew I HAD to get in on the sale! So what'd I do? I pawned my WEDDING RINGS!! (what WAS I thinking???). In my defense, my wedding set was white gold..and I'd started wearing yellow gold several years before..and my white gold set ended up in my jewelry box. So we go to the Pawn Shop and I pawned them for $25.-$30. and we headed to Walmart! I just never could seem to come up with the money to go back and get my rings (and d@mned if I was telling DH what I'd done). Months turned into years...and sometimes I'd think about my rings..and feel sick that I'd done something so stupid, but you can't un-ding the bell!:( It was probably 8yrs. later another friend and I were in the same shop..and I asked to see the white gold wedding sets. The lady pulled a couple of trays from under the counter and I started looking. Not for MY set...just looking!! I was looking in the 2nd tray and about fell over the counter! There was MY set of rings! I knew beyond doubt they were MINE!!! My friend knew they were MINE!! I almost started crying and told the lady that I'd pawn them several years ago...and by golly, I wanted them back!! Would you believe the guy (owner) asked if I remembered how much I got for them and when I told him...he let me "buy" the back for that amount!! All the Pawn Shops in this town don't have enough $$ to buy those rings NOW!*S*

I buy books and movies and things from Amazon and occasionally from well known companies like HP. I don't buy anything I am unsure of on trips or online. Most places online won't give you a refund, just a credit. Even local gift shops won't refund money, they do the a card.

When in doubt, check at ResellerRatings.com to see how a vendor is rated. I don't see mygofer.com on the ResellerRatings site, but when I went to mygofer it look as though they're part of the Sears/K-Mart family, and their main focus is delivering things one usually doesn't have delivered--like groceries. It looks like they'll deliver to K-Mart on the same day. I don't know what one would pay for this sort of service. In any case, it doesn't appeal to me.

For bedding, I've had great experiences with Overstock. I always pay attention to the consumer reviews of a product I'm interested in. They talk about colors, etc.

Even though it appears to be part of the Sears/KMart family, you might not have the same guaranees/return privilages as with other stores. I ran into that problem with Land's End. Bought some long sleeve Tee Shirts for GD, they really did not fit and the colors were not like it was on the internet. She went into Sears (which does carry Land's End) to either exchange them or get a gift card. they were really really rude, wanted them to mail the products back to me and have me mail them back to Land's end and when my DD (who is very aggresive) refused, asked for a manager. A person claiming to be one, came over and asked why she had to return them, they explained, and she just snapped, OH well, we will just credit the person who bought them's account. They didn't tell me untll last month. Yes it showed up on my CC, but I had to mail my GD a check for the loss of 1/2 of her Christmas gifts. Now the catalogs go into the trash.

I don't trust buyong things online or from catalogs. For something like a bedspread, I want to see and feel it. What if I order online and the color is not like I expected? Then I have to call the company, ask their returns policy, find a box, wrap it up and mail it back. Too much trouble. Yes it might be handy but it could end up causing me a lot of trouble.

Mygofer.com was a new experience for me. I was just curious to know if anyone had used it. KT peeps are a good resource for such information.

I take it that none of you have used it.

What I learned is that the site has an alphabetical list of a gazillion companies, most of which I've never heard of, but also companies and brands that we are all familiar with. Makes searching a lot easier.

I typed in bedspreads and I have looked at dozens of them. Several years ago I was looking for bedspreads and there were very few offered. It seems that comforters had taken over the bedrooms. Bedspreads have made a come-back I guess.

Of course I would rather touch, feel see the real fabric of anything I'm interested in. I have been to all the local stores here and haven't seen anything I like. By going through some of the suggested sites listed, I have seen many, and have found some that I like. Haven't ordered anything yet.

I did a lot of "looking" that I would not have done going from store to store, and of course we don't have those stores here either.

I'm not recommending mygofer.com. I do think it is a good way to search from home.

By staying with well known businesses I think online shopping is great.
