No, I don't think so. I prefer to take the time and pick a card, write something, mail it....

I do like personal emails. It doesn't have to be anything hand written for me, but an actual email from someone (or facebook message) is fine and dandy!

I agree with you, but today most people will only do e-cards. For me I want the real thing. You can go to the dollar stores & get cards for just that $1.00. I always send cards through the mail & will never stop. Guess that shows are age.

I used to be the queen of sending cards, and usually added notes, etc. But little by little, I've had to stop doing it. I don't do E-cards, but I do send an email. An email or a phone call from my loved ones is all I need. I'm happy they remember me.

I do send cards to my special needs sister, and to my great grandchildren. I send cards of condolences also.

I send e-cards if I find something special, and I enjoy receiving them and I also mail cards.

I appreciate getting an e-card - it means someone was thinking of me. I send e-cards once in a while, but 90% of the time, I buy a card and write a note in it.

I no longer send and very rarely open them, too many are adware and malware loaded. Serious infections have come along with ecards. Plus your email address is spread about, great way to heavily increase your spam intake.

I don't open them either. Same reason as ravencajum...too much garbage attached...maybe not dangerous, but annoying and I don't need it.

I am suspicious of ecards - I agree that they are too risky. Adware, malware, and who knows what else. I never open them.

Emailed greetings are fine. For many years I could not write easily by hand, so once email became available, I took full advantage of it! I can now write by hand again (yeah!), but I've gotten in the habit of sending greetings by email.

I don't mind receiving greetings by email either - it's the thought that counts, and I don't know what limitations (physical, time or whatever) others may have.

I love E-cards. I use Blue Mountain which has a small annual charge. There is no spam, malware or adware attached. I like the ecological benefit of not wasting paper and fuel for snail mail cards.

I love e-cards too. My father in law loves getting them. I use Jaquie Lawson (by membership only - no advertising). They are beautifully animated with music.

Real cards are getting just too dang expensive and most people don't keep them anyway.

I also belong to the Lawson sight and use it instead of buying cards.....they cheap ones look like that Cheap! and the expensive ones are too costly....I love Lawson cards and my response to anyone who doesn't want to receive my care...

I don't mind the ecards, but it is really nice to receive old fashioned cards with a small note that shows that the sender put some thought (at least I do) into the sentiment and the note. Cards are hard to part with and I have many that are many years old and some more recent ones in little places like my dresser or computer or desk. They are kinda 'feel good' reminders of the people that sent them.

I'm another one that deletes e-cards without reading them for the reasons above. I make my own cards and so do most of my friends. We really appreciate the time and effort spent making them. A group of my friends get together once a week and we usually scrapbook or make cards. It is fun learning different techniques.

I don't like them either and most often don't open them. However, it is appreciated that someone remembered, especially in this day and age, and it did take them awhile to choose and send a card. I thank them by email and lightly explain being "paranoid" about viruses, laughing at myself. What I'd really like to say is that spreading my email addy around isn't appreciated, and please stop sending those fwds. too. (LOL)

It doesn't strike me as borderline rude that someone thought of you on a special occasion & then sent you an e-card. I mean, they thought of you! So it takes just a tad more effort to go out & buy a 50 cent card & mail it. Not a lot of distinction there, imo. I guess I don't parse peoples' efforts, intentions, or motivations to that degree.

That being said I'm not into the e-cards anymore for the very reason Raven & others stated. But I will take a look @ the site Tally linked & may begin to use it.

I do agree that a lot of people probably don't appreciate the effort that is put into the homemade cards. Same goes for the purchased card that is just "perfect" for the recipient. But such is life.

But I'm afraid that I am still not comfortable opening those things, or anything that comes with an attachment, an .exe, or anything like that. Many viruses come disguised as greeting cards. It just isn't worth it.

I do recognize that costs for traditional cards are going up - a basic card can easily cost $3.00 or more, then when you add in the increasing cost of postage - yeow! Too bad that so many of us are suspicious of e-cards. What was the price on that link - something like $12 for a year's worth of unlimited cards. That's a good deal compared to the price of "real" cards.

The Jacquie Lawson cards can also be posted on someone's facebook page so they don't have to be sent to an email addy. A number of people that I know have joined the site since I sent them an e-card. Perhaps there is also the distinction between sending an e-card to an acquaintance, and a card mailed to a close friend or family. I couldn't possibly send a card to all those who receive an e-card.

I've recieved some Jaque Lawson and American Greetings
and Hallmark E cards. I appreciate them! And the are beautiful and it takes time to pick them out also!

There are some animated e-cards that I have rec'd from friends from the Jacquie Lawson series for the 4th of July and Valentines Day. They are beautiful and you subscribe to the service. But, you are right to remind me about the about the possibility of a virus.

Me, I write hand-written notes for birthdays and times of stress. I really have stuff in my heart for those people and need to let them know.

Can't stand sing songy cards that are sent to through the mail with just a signature without much thought of the message on it. Some sent to me have hurt me badly.

For example:

When my husband was in Vietnam for our first anniversary
I got a printed card from his dopey faher's wife that said
that this must be the best day of the year for me.

When I had cancer I was told that it was operable and my chances were good.

After the surgery I got a grim card from a neighbor that said "we are sorry the news is so bad right now and are praying that things get better. I thought everyone was lying to me about my future and became very isolated from my friends and family. Those taking care of me went to her and let her it. Her facts were wrong and she didn't read the card before she sent it.

I do not like e-cards! These things are made by a third party and the sender does not know what is hidden in the message. Those things are not free and somewhere, somehow, the host site is making money off of these - They can not afford to do it for 'free'. In a few cases, it is self advertisement by the host site and that is not too terrible. Its the malicious stuff I hate. It may be as mundane as planting a tracking cookie on you computer to outright damage. In either case, it is unethical.

People get caught up in the idea of sending a cutsy e-card, but I would rather they write something themselves in acknowledgement of my existence. A "Happy Birthday" is much more appreciated. Often, I do not open e-mail cards and simply delete the message.

I haven't picked up any virus yet, but have heard of others that have. Me, I'm old fashioned and prefer finding the right card, adding a note and sending it.

E cards just seem so impersonal to me. Yes, Yes, I know at least the person is thinking of me and I appreciate that fact. But I'd much prefer to receive a card in the mail that I can open and enjoy and keep displayed somewhere.

Paper cards, emailed notes, text messages, Facebook birthday wishes - they're all fine with me! I do agree with Ravencajun that I don't like ecards because of potential viruses, though I've never actually *gotten* a virus from an ecard.
