Paint help for bungalow renovation needed.
Comments (4)You want the best finish on the walls you can afford. A Level 5 plaster veneer would be just shy of a full 3 coat plaster job, and superior to any drywall finish. Depending on the height of the ceiling, whether there is any crown molding, coved ceiling design etc, drives ceiling color. If basic 8' or 9' high ceilings, and no crown, ceiling color at 50% of wall color looks good. If you have higher ceilings, crown moldings or other architectural features you can start playing with different colors, or even darker ceilings....See MoreAre valances suitable for Craftsman bungalows?
Comments (14)Yes, take it down! We had these monstrous 1960s valences with 3 layers of sheers, thermals and curtains - all on pulleys that ran all around our octagon bay-front LR into the adjacent DR. I agree, they were a mess to take out but did not damage the plaster (thank goodness!) and were oddly made of some really solid wood that made some nice shelves for the attic. :) Some day, if I ever refinish the windows in these very public rooms of the house, I'll be putting in wood blinds. For now, we have nice curtains in our DR, and kind of crummy ones in the octagon front. But the octagon is 7 windows and pretty complicated and the budget won....See MoreFine tuning 1935 bungalow renovation layout
Comments (12)Here is an updated layout with the front and middle closets expanded to 6'-4" x 2'-6". The width would allow three 24" sections of Elfa shelving with a drawer section centered in the doorway. The 2'-6" (30") depth would allow for better access to the top shelf and better use the 9' ceiling height. After many years of living with the previous "closets", I figure it would be better to size the closets to actually be useful, rather than under-sizing them and making them somewhat useless. I'm tempted to squeeze the front bathroom down and put the bathtub in there and then just make a bigger shower in the back bathroom. But I need some talking points to convince my wife since she is the one that uses the bathtub....See Morebungalow renovation
