An interesting picture story about a mysterious heiress

I found this interesting reading/viewing. Forty-seven photos sounds like a lot, but the whole thing goes quickly. Clark was once the richest (or possibly second richest) man in America, but I'd never heard of him. No one seems to know where his daughter is (except for her lawyer).

That was really fascinating. It makes me wonder why the other members of the family haven't gone to court to make sure Huguette is being properly cared for - a la Brooke Astor. For all they know she might have passed away and her attorney is siphoning her money. It also reminds me of another odd story - that of Doris Duke.

When's the movie coming out?

Thank you for all the compliments and help! As for soil, it does include some bark components, but is not a specific recipe or anything and does contain some regular soil. Now that I know of some good soil recipes from the forum, I was going to amend it with either the coco-husk or 5:1:1 recipes. Although, it does seem to be doing great in what it is in. Yeah, the only huge lemon I know of is Ponderosa also, so I assume it can or is a Ponderosa. But since every Ponderosa I have seen or grew always fruited when young, I often have wondered if it is not, and maybe some weird Italian native that I do not know of? Mgk65, Thank you! I have learned something new again from you! I really have to find some info about leaf node #s and counts. Hopefully there is a thread here explaining it here in more detail on the forum? So, are the # of leaf nodes to fruit numbers pretty much the the same within one variety? Or, does the # of nodes before fruiting vary greatly even within the same variety? Does the leaf node count apply to just fruiting, or does it apply to when it starts to blossom also? Does a tree have to have a certain amount of leaf nodes before it just blossoms also? Sylvia, I have posted this on other forums, so you may have read it before. It isn't exactly a ghost story, just something strange. When we bought this place, we waited a year before moving here, waiting on my daughter to graduate from high school. But we moved the horses here, so every evening, I would drive down here to feed the horses. We had built a work shop and there was a refrigerator in it, and we came down and worked on the place sometimes and had cook outs. One afternoon I came down a little early to mow the grass. I brought two Dr. Peppers. I was drinking one, and went to put the 2nd one in the fridge, but noticed it needed cleaning out. So, I cleaned out the refrigerator, leaving only some salad dressing, ketchup...a few condiments. I put my 2nd Dr. Pepper front and center in the fridge. After mowing the grass, and feeding the horses, I came back inside to get my soda for the drive home. It wasn't there. I was thinking maybe I had already taken it out, so I went outside and looked on the picnic table. Not there. I came back in and again, looked in the fridge. Not there. I was really thirsty and it was getting late. One more time...outside, looked all around. Not there. Once more looked in the fridge...nothing there but the few bottles of salad dressing, etc. In other words, practically empty. Finally, gave up. I locked the building, locked the gate and drove home without it. The next day I came down to finish mowing. Again, I brought two Dr. Peppers. I took one in the shop to put it in the fridge. Opened the door....front and center, the Dr. Pepper from the night before! Now, why wasn't it there the day before? Where did it go? I was the only person there...I have no neighbors and I was far out in the country. My husband and daughter laughed at me. Like I had just over looked it. A few years passed and my daughter was going to college in Houston, and living in an old apartment building across from the college. She got ready for a date one night, and went to put her compact in her purse. She had left it on the edge of the sink in her very tiny bathroom. Wasn't there. She looked everywhere for it. Came back later that night, went in the bathroom, and there it was on the edge of the sink. So...now she believes me about the Dr. Pepper, but where do things like that go???

HA! That's pretty funny, mnktx. I went to a concert last night and ever since, "76 trombones in the big parade" has played in my head OVER and OVER, so they did it for you in advance. :-) If you're really interested in stuff like that (wasp eggs on caterpillars), you can follow the link below. Some folks at North Carolina State University's department of Entomology developed "a freaky tag-team of bugs" to eat kudzu, the vine that ate the South. Where I used to live, I watched a car parked at a garage get covered in kudzu in a matter of a couple weeks--it's beautiful, but it's the most aggressive plant I've ever seen. They didn't want the caterpillar to go nuts eating everything else, though, so they infected their caterpillars with an organic time bomb--wasp larvae in their backs which would eat them from the inside out. Interesting! Thanks, Pammyfay. She wasn't a bad artist! Re the jewelry, I wish they'd shown us that pink diamond. I don't know much about diamonds, so I looked up the D-color. Apparently it's the highest quality: colorless. It's somewhat sad to see the photograph of those two pretty young girls in their big hats, with their father--no idea of what lay ahead for them. (As if any of us know that.)

I loved it as it is a complete mystery to who she was and is she really alive? One area mentioned was Jerome AZ and my Dad was raised in that area and did work in the copper smelters for years before his Mom and brother and himself, relocated to CA. That was in the early1900's. Fascinating story.

That was interesting Susan. I started looking at the pictures earlier this evening and my computer froze up. I had to come back and finish up. I love a good mystery, but I'd like it even better if it was solved.

I got mesmerized by it. Had to keep going back and forth to check out some things. Just fascinating!

I doubt that any movie could be made that would do justice to this story, and the lives of the people involved.

I forgot to mention that I liked his Bequest, given a few grains of salt!

Clark bequeathed this advice as well: "The most essential elements of success in life are a purpose, increasing industry, temperate habits, scrupulous regard for one's word ... courteous manners, a generous regard for the rights of others, and, above all, integrity

I am only getting half a page, the top half. Can't read the whole story that way.

Who names their baby girl Huguette? That's just awful.

I thought the houses sitting empty for 57 & 47 years were really sad.

What will become of the treasures? How incredible. I hope she's being treated well.

Okay, I finally figured out how to get it so I could read it.

What a coincidence! This past week I spent several days in Clarkdale AZ, which is 45 minutes from my house, looking at property to buy with my Mom. Who knew? I have never heard that story before but it's 5 minutes from his mine in Jerome Az.

I agree with Mcmann. Why isn't someone demanding answers about her well being and safety?

Lynn- I thought Connelsville sounded familiar. I grew up near Pittsburgh and we used to drive through there on our way to Deep Creek Maryland.

Magic, her mother was French. That explains the sister's name, too: Andree (which I rather like).

Sue, Clark bequeathed sound advice, but it sure doesn't jibe with Mark Twain's assessment of him. Maybe he changed...

That was a fascinating read. A huge thank you for finding this and sharing! I tired to look for more info and there is nothing out there. Even Wikipedia only has a short blurb on her father and does not even mention the offspring.

I wonder how close her life resembles that of Barbara Hutton (The Woolworth heiress who turned reclusive.) I read a biography on her life. It was just one tragedy after another.

It is a pretty common name depending on where you are from I guess. I don't know how a name can be "awful".
