Lori, I love your Dining Room. The only thing that I might look at changing would be the chandelier. Maybe a crystal one with simple lines? The one you have is nice but your table and chairs are so unusual and fabulous, I'd love to see a fixture that is light but with some warmth to it. I don't see any struggle here, it's a beautiful room with great light and soft colors, perfect with your furniture!!

I would paint it green - because I'm painting everything green lately (Lowes olive3). Also, I think green would enhance the beauty of the wood, whereas now it seems to blend. The room looks really pink on my monitor for some reason.

I think the dining set calls for a more streamlined windowtreatment. It you keep it simple it will not conflict with the rest of your house.

I like the lamps on the buffet. I feel the shades on the lamps add warmth and a retro feel to the room. I am in agreement with the jjam about the chandelier.

I am decorating in the same style and have been using modern art in antiquish looking frames which I feel adds warmth to the straight lines along with some with more modern framing. So with that in mind, I think your art works fine. I am not sure I like the mirror on the opposite wall. It's kind of just hanging there. I think I would like to see a grouping of some sort on that wall.

To give you an idea of some styles that might work, I posted a couple of Chandy's I found on Lamps Plus. The second one has the retro feel although I think the shade may be too light. I was actually looking for one with a silvery color shade.

Great start to the room! I would move the drapes up higher above the windows. I would add some Danish Modern pieces or other 50's retro items to help create that eclectic look. Perhaps change the lamps out for something more contemporary.

I like it either way; though I do think you need to flank the mirror with either some smaller prints or decorative sconces (or candles). Personally, I think the chandelier goes fine. I would not change it at this time. What I was wondering is if you have a different location you can put your table lamps (like your living room). They really are too large and block the window. I prefer to see something with a much cleaner profile/smaller shade. Something more like this.

I think the painting looks very good there all by itself, the size and colors look perfect for the space, and the rest of the room looks great! Not that you asked. But it's such a pretty room.

When you say you tried the picture on the other wall and it didn't look right, that tells me that you know what you're doing even if you're not sure you do. Good job!

I think your dining set with your accessories look great. You didn't like the art on the other wall? Why?

The mirror seems kind of lonely and isolated over there, where as before it seemed to fit the space between the drapes better. Do you have some small prints, plates or sconces you could add to the mirror to make a grouping with? The colors of the art are beautiful with your room though, nice choice.

Decorating is so personal. I think the room is wonderful as it is and all the things mentioned are certainly viable options but strictly a matter of personal tastes. I don't think anything "needs" to be changed. That being said, I would agree with never ending as far as switching back the art and the mirror.

I love the room, and I especially love the drapes!

I prefer the mirror between the windows and the art on the other wall (your last pic)... it looks really nice!

I would suggest finding scones in a darker finish, to oull the color of the mirror in the room elsewhere...

I bought these for my MB and love them...

Right now, I think I'm leaning towards changing the art back too, Dixie... :(

Loribee...HI...I like the last pictures best as far as placement of the Oil painting however I feel it doesn't really fit the room all that well. It is to much of a period piece that clashes with the other period period pieces, if that makes sense. Find something more in line with the design of the mirror, the mirror is beautiful. The metal finishes in your room are silver in color, you want to stick with the same metal finish, even though the gold picture frame isn't metal it does portray the metal of gold. Make sense? Try to find a neutral frame and a picture the does not portray a period in time, like flowers or something, you know what I mean.

My suggestion is to stay in the style of the furniture. Don"t try to fight it. The set can go MCM/retro/hollywood.

I feel the lamps on the buffet work because the shades are the style of the room. Traditonal buffet lamps would not work.

Different metals can be used in the room, so you don't need to rule out gold frames. Designers do it all the time. I prefer to see different artwork in the room but that's MO. It's your room and art is very personal.

If you page through magazines like Elle Decor you may get some ideas, especially since you stated, this is out of your usual style. As you page through you will notice all kinds of elements being used in the rooms they photograph including some older styled furnishings. Elle Decor is one of my fav's because they implement different elements into their more modern furnishings.

And I don't know why, but I'm actually thinking a cool, framed, vintage poster, maybe from the 40's or 50's would be a good look in there and capitalize on the vintage look of the dining set.

I think the McCobb furniture is great, and I'm not a fan of that period, in general. Rather than the impersonal sort of art.com stuff, I'd look for a wall sculpture from around that some period but more elegant that flying mallards, etc.

Artisan House and the C. Jere wall art are the best known, but some of the stuff veers into kitsch, in my mind.

I actually rather like the "outdoor scenes" ones, though, as they're rather graceful, and less massive.

I think the plan is to leave the huge painting in the kitchen and tone down the frame. Then I will hunt for something fun and more fitting in the DR! Maybe I'll move my round mirror back to where it was, in between the windows. I did like it there. THANKS! :)
