How much snow did you get today?

I went out and measured, a measly 5 inches today. I've shoveled three times already, need to get out at 5 a m tomorrow for dialysis. It's supposed to continue to midnight and it's falling at an inch an hour. Don't ask me how I know, I took a yardstick out there 30 minutes after I last shoveled. My Nice Guy Neighbor also came around with his snow-blower. He's an angel. Last time I made him cookies. All I could offer him today was some ice-melt.

Too much.

About 7 inches last night, and I just measured 14" so far today. Outside is windy, limbs of trees are breaking off from the snow weight and it's snowing sideways in the wind....can hardly see. Supposed to get worse before ending late tonight.

I got 13-14", which wasn't much compared to other parts of the state. Even so, it took 2+ hours for my wife and I to clear the driveway. This was only the 3rd time I've used the snow blower I got before last winter. The two previous times were ~4", so this was the first real test. I got one of the higher rated electric (corded) ones and it was a real effort. I think the one benefit over shoveling is that it doesn't tire out your arms as much (just your legs and abs). It seems to be almost as much effort. The forecast shows low 40's for the rest of the week, so hopefully that will melt most of it. I've got my first trees coming in in less than a month, so I don't want this to stick around long. Unlike Mrs G, I didn't see any damage whatsoever to my trees. I guess it stayed cold enough to be snow and not ice them up. Also, I think that there was a lot less wind than predicted.

Our newspaper says we've gotten 4.5 inches in October for an annual total of 35.06 inches so far. Normal is 49.68. And last year we had 29 inches all year. Not good. We don't have reservoirs. We drain the underground aquifer which I guess is in adequate shape except in inland places where coastal communities tap in because they have no aquifer. But my birdbath filled twice this last week. Rain has been pretty spotty. Thankfully, my house has been under it recently. Not so previously. Seems like it rains once a month now in the land of daily summer thunderstorms. I'm so glad you folks north of here are finally getting wet. And stop carrying those umbrellas. You know it never rains when you're ready for it. BTW, the Corps of Engineers has to slow (or stop) pumping at some point. People are more important than paper mills and rare species. Duh! Sherry

James, Here in Love County, our snowstorm was a joke....maybe a half-inch of very fine, powdery snow but lots of very cold air and very strong winds. Howling winds and a pretty cold wind chill are mostly what we received here. Oddly, the interstate and especially its bridges turned into a skating rink and our emergency personnel were dispatched to a rash of accidents (DH said his work involved at least 12 vehicles that either crashed, rolled over or slid off the highway in about a 1-hour period) last night, and it has already started up again this morning, with a truck wrecking out on the I-35 Red River Bridge. Our roadways are dry here near our house and not bad at all, but there must be something frozen on the bridges. Even though the snow amounted to virtually nothing here, I'm still glad I covered up all my cool-season crops and early, emerging perennials and herbs, because the cold wind alone has been enough to dessicate and damage foliage of young plants. I think I'll leave them covered until tomorrow because the wind chill and winds are still brutal. All of you who have lots of snow be careful and stay warm today. I'll be playing in the dirt inside, starting more seeds and might even venture out to a store later today. It depends on how messed up the roads remain.... Dawn

2" on the ground and still coming down. Its 24F. I think that is as warm as its going to get today here. Its a very dry, light, fluffy powdery snow here. VERY beautiful /scenic snowfall. The big problem is that every flake that has fallen / will fall, is sticking to every surface. The roads here are as bad as I have seen them for only having 2" on the ground. What is turning to slush is just refreezing. Going down to about 15-18F again tonight. If the clouds clear out after dark, and with this snow cover on the ground it could get VERY cold here. They have pretty much written the next storm off for us. Im very glad too. I hope it goes out to sea and stays there. Although after a brief warm up to the mid 30's tomorrow and Saturday, were going right back down to below freezing for daytime highs here next week. The jackpot for this storm is central and southern Virginia, and the high plateau / elevations of the Allegheny front in W. VA, and the ridge tops of the Blue Ridge. But then again, its been snowing on the high plateaus of the Allegheny front for two weeks now and theyve had a couple of feet for a couple of weeks now. Laura, on the news they said Suffolk got about 4-5", and its now clicked over to sleet and freezing rain there. How much did you get?

We had a foot or so from Saturday and have a bunch more now and it is still coming.

today we have 6 inches and it is still coming down....
on top of the 23 inches we got the other day.

Here, north of Albany, NY, only about 1 inch. Just enough to cover the ugly brown ground.

We had snow is 1988, I think but not in our town....just on the highest peak in our county.

9.4 in Dover, DE on top of the 22 we all ready got. Getting ready to go out and clear driveway and then help out neighbors. Having a snow blower makes the job so much more easy!

We only got 2" yesterday, but it was on top of the almost THREE FEET we got over the weekend...and that was on top of the 9" we had gotten a few days before. We've had enough!!!!

None yet we were supposed get some this morning. A friend sent me photos of Dallas a lot of snow there and more to come
