A thought or two on putting bulbs in pots outside in the summer: I do put most of mine on concrete but some rest on a mix of soil and gravel. I haven't seen much difference between the two. Both will get bugs in the soil but mostly they are not doing much if any damage with at least one minor exception. Pill bugs get in and make a home in the bottom of the pots and they don't seem to bother much and I don't pay much attention to them. If you repot in the fall, they will fall off as you pull the plant out of the soil. They might have a tiny nitch where they group together. I had one pot only that had something like a slug in it. It had eaten the roots for a distance of an inch to 1 1/2 inch and seemed mostly harmless. The exception was three pots that had earth worms. They (the worms) had balled up when I checked. In each case the roots were somewhat separated from the soil and had not developed as well as the other pots. The bulbs had grown but not as much as the others. Now on screens and stuff. I think intimate contact of the potting soil with the concrete or soil is important. It acts as a wick and thus you know that water will not sit in the bottom of the pot. The intimate contact drains away any excess water in event of a heavy rain or frequent rains. I don't use a special soil, only good potting soil from Lowes. I don't recall any bulbs ever rotting with this system. I think the bugs will come on the concrete as well as the soil if the pot is sitting directly on the surface. If I was not setting the pot directly on the surfaces, I'd put in a wick to make sure the pot drained if there is excess moisture. I put out about 100 pots of amys in the summer.

It's what our original painter used in 2005, so not much choice. I realize it will darken, so eventually I'll repaint all the damn trim with latex Impervo.

Beth, Georgian does not equate to Mansion... I am not trying to be rude but I felt like you came for me and tried to throw some shade. Georgian houses were typically built in the colonial era of the Americas. They can range in size from a cottage/shack to a mansion, like some of those you depicted. I posted pictures of colonial Georgian homes that had inspired my design for my house so you should have seen that there were examples of small Georgian homes. Like one of the gentlemen who commented earlier in the thread, it can also be called a cape cod style house. These homes are usually brick or wood sided and feature shutters and columns. The first picture I posted of the ornate column was just an example of the wraparound feature I was looking for, I was not saying that I wanted that column specifically or anything within that realm. I know that that is way too ornate for my house and Georgian homes don't typically have crazy columns like that. They're usually the classical smooth columns. I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find the wraparound ones. I understand that you're a "PRO" but just because you paid or had yourself verified as a home business person doesn't mean that you know everything about houses and styles. Literally, every example you've posted of Georgian houses have been mansions or very large homes. I realize that the White House is Georgian. I acknowledge there is no way for me to turn my existing home into a Georgian mansion, however, I can turn it into a Georgian style cottage. There have already been numerous photos posted of small Georgian houses so your opinion about it is superfluous. Thank you Katie B. for your input and those photos. You are right that I do not care that shutters do not actually cover the windows. That is not the purpose for me. I don't live on the East Coast or in the tropics or near any coast for that matter that I have to worry about a hurricane or tropical storm winds doing damage to my windows and I would never use them even if they were functional. I don't live in "Tornado Alley" either. As a matter of fact, I live in Southern California, in the southeastern edge of the state where I have Az to my east and Mexico to my south. I'm right on the border and the state line basically. In other words, the only weather I have to worry about here is the heat so my small shutters are the kind that are just for decorative purposes. I don't really agree that somehow these arches were added later or that it's some kind of one-off subsequent blasphemy on a midcentury modern house. If blasphemy occurred its original blasphemy. This is a midcentury ranch/rambler outgrowth of the slightly earlier "minimal traditional" architectural style and there are entire developments around here that had these modern shaped houses and floorplans tricked out with colonial revival details from day one. The "colonial" ranch with 6/6 windows and shutters and clapboard and brick combos with carriage lamps and often with a giant picture window somewhere is a legitimate architectural style from the America postwar era whether people like it or not. This is because most Americans embraced the modern floor plan but did not embrace the modernist style. It's the same phenomenon that led to the much uglier than this McMansion style as well.
