For me it's nostalgia. I've been looking a for a "real" beanbag chair = one that goes crunch when you sit on it - for my son and can't find one anywhere. They are all filled with styrofoam or something now and are light as a feather. What's up with that?

I don't know, maybe because they make money selling them?

When I read the title of the thread I thought "Really?? Do people over age 12 really enjoy bean bag chairs that much?". I know that I thought that they were really cool when I was 12 in the 60s, but as an adult I find that they are really hard to get in and out of.

LOL at terriks, I was thinking the same thing! I havent sat in one since I was a kid and I hate to think how i would get out of one and standing back up again now :)

Uh, terriks...isn't that why you're doing 200 squats? So you can gracefully get yourself up and out of things like bean bag chairs? If you can't do it there is NO hope for the rest of us.

Well, I for one never considered a bean bag chair but if I read about it here, among you mavens of design, it must be what I need next to complete my home. Can't wait to check that link...I'll be back with questions about which poly-vinyl type covering will work best.

Growing up, I had one in my room and when our cat got old-she lived to 18- she started going in my bean bag chair. I guess she enjoyed the chair!

hhireno, You are right. My whole plan in doing the squats is to live out my 6th grade dream of a house furnished with nothing but bean bag furniture and low tables! I'll have a giant king sized bean bag bed that I'll be able to get out of in the morning because of my amazing gluteal muscles.
My friends will be crashed out here and there on my many bean bag sofas and love seats. It's going to be sooo groovy!

Bean bag chairs are great to just relax and lounge around in. We used to slide down the stairs while riding our bean bag chairs (not recommended!), when I was a kid.

terrki - COOL BEANS! I'll bring the Pixie Stix and my Atari. Buy a few extra chairs, in racing colors, so we can ride them down the stairs, like davey3000 used to do.

I didn't mind them so much when I was younger, but I'm pretty sure if I got in one now, I'd never get up again.

Totally Confused

One of my early apartments was extremely small, but I liked to have friends over and there was insufficient space to seat them all. Floor pillows weren't enough for the hardwood floors, so I bought a bunch of beanbag chairs because they were squishy enough to stuff under the bed, behind the couch, etc. I could fit something like four under my twin bed, three behind the couch (the only two pieces of actual furniture in my apartment, but if you wanted milk crates I was your gal!). When I had a party the floor would be a sea of multicolored beanbags, and since I was the only one in the crowd who lived alone most of the parties happened at my place. People would just fall asleep in them when they got tired, and then the party would sort of re-start in the morning with someone getting up and making pancakes and mimosas. LOL

I had to sit on a HUGE beanbag chair at a party recently because that was the only way to get a semi-reclining position - obviously the host did not have a reclining chair. I had to roll out of it sideways onto my hands and knees, and lever myself up with my cane, which I've gotten pretty good at since I'm falling more often again. To be honest I was laughing the whole time, and I WAS totally sober (probably the only person there who was... the homebrewers' efforts were apparently very good this year, as was someone's *polite cough* smokeables crop). I just turned 39 - and usually feel 93 - and contentedly flopped out in that crunchy ball of a chair I felt about 23 again.

Now inflatable furniture, OTOH, don't get me started. IMO it belongs in the pool and that's IT!
