lazy susan/ trap door for groceries
Comments (7)Thank you all, I will research further now with your suggestions. We are buying a fixer which has a long driveway to a detached garage. We want to seal off the mud room door which opens to the driveway, it takes up driveway room (the stoop & stairs) also because there are 2 doors to outside in this mudroom. It would be a good time to seal one off as we are remodeling that mudroom & incorporating a laundry area. The other mudroom door goes towards the back patio, which is only a few steps to the gate and then to the driveway. That back patio door is actually almost as close to the driveway & garage, just a different path and a few more steps, so not a real biggie to lose one of the doors. I was just thinking of a quick way to transfer groceries. I remember another GW poster years back who used something similar to pull up to in her vehicle for unloading her groceries without there being a full size door there and they actually loaded into a walk in pantry, which made putting them away easy, as well as less carrying. I suppose I could just leave the 2 doors as is I hadnt thought about fire codes (although my DH is a GC so he could handle it if it was allowed). It would be nice to have some more organized storage space and look better in there if one door was sealed up. Thank you all again for the responses....See MoreReplacement of base cabinet lazy susan...

Comments (15)I know you will love your susans and the efficiency of the rotating shelves. Just plan to store things that take advantage of the vertical space as well as horizontal shelf space. Pie shaped containers might be useful if you plan to store bulk foods there, but I don't know of any. Perhaps someone will list a source. They OUGHT to exist. Here's what I did or plan to do: The two shelves of my bottom super susan holds all of my small appliances: sous vide, mixer, blender, food processor, grill, Nesco roaster--that sort of thing. There is a lot of vertical space between these two shelves, and small items do not make good use of that vertical space, IMHO. There is very little wasted horizontal or vertical space here. One year after cabinet installation, I am just now getting around to putting super susans into the very larger corner wall cab. 15'' wall cabs make for a very big and very inaccessible upper area (26'' x 26''). I am putting four susans in with less space between than is usually planned. The two lower shelves will hold sets of fairly often used items: mugs, stemware, tumblers. Upper shelves will hold seldom used casseroles and such. Because there isn't much space between shelves, I plan to store largish flat items or sets of duplicate items like glasses to make it easier to find what I am looking for. Because the upper cabinet has glass doors, the fronts of each susan will probably showcase white teapots and pitchers for decorative effect, as the shelves do now. I simply cannot WAIT to get these installed. They SHOULD go in Saturday. They are just to big and heavy for me to lift into place. So I empathize with your eagerness to play....See MoreLazy Susan on a Pole - Are they that bad ? What should I do ?
Comments (13)I had one of the "the lazy susans with plastic shelves and other [probably] cheap components" - it was fine. In fact, after 13 years, it was the only cabinet in my Kitchen that worked as well as the day it was installed! There were no issues with it at all - it was still sturdy and rotated smoothly. I really liked the fact that the door rotated into the cabinet so there were no doors to bang into surrounding cabinets. Things never fell off the shelves b/c the side/back wall was one piece that closely followed the curve of the shelves - so closely, in fact, that nothing much bigger than a grain of salt could fall off. Adding: I stored all my pots, pans, and large serving pieces in it - it held a lot!...See Morepinch_me
