Hi Phyllis, I have never had a flower over 10" either but I don't disbud and I think that you probably have to do that to get them bigger. But thats ok with me because a 9 or 10" flower is pretty impressive. Sounds like you have some wonderful new varities this year. I think I am getting Neon Splendor in a trade this fall. I love the picture of that one! How did it do for you? Some of the new ones I got this year were Hot Tamale and Punkin Spice. Hot Tamale way out performed Punkin Spice. Punkin spice didn't bloom a lot and stems were weak. They were planted right next to each other. My plants did get a little frosted last night. Some look pretty bad and others right next to them are fine. I'm a Hottie is still beautiful with about 20 blooms on it. It supposed to get down to 28 tonight so I am sure they will all be toast tomorrow. I guess thats ok because it is supposed to warm back up into the 60's so I won't be freezing while I am digging them up. I am already looking forward to next year because between the trades I am getting and the ones I have ordered I will have about 35 new ones! Judy, no my bananas don't produce fruit because the growing season here is too short. But they do get big and give that wonderful tropical look that I love. Linda

Hi all, It's nice to be missed. :o) That was a doozy, I tell ya. I finally started to feel half way human on Saturday, and then we were into reno mode again for 2 days. Yesterday was catch up day for laundry, housework etc, so finally today I have some time to come and say hey. :o) I did get to see some of the end of the olympics - how exciting was that hockey game!!! I watched some of the closing ceremonies, but not all unfortunately. I'll have to do some Youtubeing along with Steff. I watched Tom Brokaw's special on Canada - pretty ambitious project for 6 minutes, but very interesting. It's amazing when you think that Canada's population is pretty much the same as California, eh? Forgive me if someone posted the link here already. I managed to get the baby quilts done, but haven't delivered them yet. I will try to post some pics here later today. ttyl :o) Here is a link that might be useful: Tom Brokaw explains Canada

I'll have to check out Walmart. My cat Lucy scratches on one spot at the front door which I don't mind so much because she doesn't go after my furniture. Chloe, "the cat who came to visit and never went home" has already destroyed one piece of furniture and now is working on my vinyl ottoman. I went out and bought a heavy duty cardboard called a "Cosmic Catnip Scratching Post" a few weeks ago and Lucy took right to it because of the catnip - she rolled on it, licked it, slept on it but did everything but scratch it for the first 2 weeks. This week I finally saw her dig her nails into it a few times and scratch it. She also uses it to sit on because she doesn't like to sit on the cold floor. Chloe ignores it completely. I need to find something that Chloe will scratch. I am thinking she likes to dig her nails into soft things so I might have to look for a carpeted post but Lucy will love the one you posted. Thanks for the tip. Anne
