Tired of the whole women's clothes shopping experience
Comments (36)Ha! Yes! That is the mall that I fondly remember. We saved our allowance and babysitting money and lived for the weekends when our moms would drop us off and just let us wander the place for hours. I remember crushing on the cute boys who worked at the pizza place (a giant slice of pizza and a Dr. Pepper was always a must) - oh, and then a box of Karmelkorn and an Orange Julius. That was back in the day when Pier 1 was, as you say, BB, "junky". But what fun it was! Lerner's was a popular store for teen girls, and I unloaded quite a bit of my teenage cash in there! I remember spending hours in Musicland, the record store, then going next door to the t-shirt shop where you could have your choice of iron-on transfers applied while you wait. (I bought an ELO shirt there. ;-)) We were generally well behaved kids, but I do recall one time riding the elevator in Penney's and screaming all the way up. As the doors opened onto the second level, we were met by a very irritated security guard. We were mortified, and so worried that they were going to call our parents. Back then, we still believed that something like that could "go down on your permanent record." Ah. Nostalgia....See MoreWho buys clothing fron the shopping channel
Comments (9)I too like QVC and have shopped with them for as long as they have been on the air. I am not a "shopper" really, I need shoes that are wide and Clarks always fit well and one of the designers makes pants that fit me. Yes, I have made some booboo's....hate it when I buy something I don't need and return shipping is very high.... but, I am also handicapped so I have to have someone take me places. It IS really easy to get taken in by those "friend" sales people, and lately they have really gotten too chummy, IMO, so I no longer keep the station of very often. I also witnessed my mother become 'taken-in' by that 'friendliness, and it was amazing that an 80+ year old woman would buy so much perfume, jewelry and kitchen stuff....See MoreWhere do you shop for clothes?
Comments (82)I have long, slender legs with narrow hips and a small bottom so skinny jeans and leggings look good on me. I love them, but wear them only with blousey tops that cover my bottom. At my age, anything else would look inappropriate with them, IMO. I'm not considered overweight, but I have to admit that menopause has done a number on my waist and I would so love to tone it up. I started running on my eliptical again, and doing sit ups to help . . . but instead, gave myself a major abdominal strain that put me out of commission for 3 weeks. That was so incredibly painful! My DH said that I was lucky I didn't give myself a hernia! As for tops, I don't like to wear the tight ones. Those were all well and good when i was young and wider cut slacks and jeans were in style, but for me, not now. As I mentioned earlier here, I buy a lot of my clothes via Soft Surroundings online. I'm just not liking the very long backs that are showing on many these days. I have a few that I'm actually taking to a seamstress this week to have shortened some. As for my style, I went through a kind of hippie stage in my teens, but even then my jeans were always clean and pressed (lol). Then "surfer girl", living on the ocean in Florida in my Twenties. My 23 y/o daughter would tell you that I've definitely dressed "preppy" for as long as she can remember. Most likely, Southwestern Preppy, though! That is, except when I'm gardening. Then, my style runs heavily towards bag lady!...See MoreShopping for Petite Clothing
Comments (24)I remember when DD became engaged. We had the whole family here for Christmas, as usual, and she was arriving here the 24th and flying to fiancee on the 26th for their splashy engagement party in Louisiana that night or the next. She needed a dress, and so I ran out to two Macy's on the 24th to find a cocktail dress that would fit her. I brought home every petite 0 and petite 2 that looked possible, maybe 8 dresses. I hoped we could keep 2 or 3. All of them were too big except one would work because it was cut on the bias and draped on her well, even though it was a tad big too. So as her dad took her to the airport the morning of the 26th, I returned the dresses. That red satin Jones New York dress still fits and is a lovely dress for fancy occasions 12 years later....See Moremarge727
