Shea Butter. I understand that it is very good for your skin. Skin products that proclaim to have shea butter in them usually have a very low percentage of shea butter in the product.

Has anyone every used shea butter, I am getting to an age where I will try anything. LOL

Apparently there are a lot of imitation 'shea' butters on the market. I went to the site below and found some interesting reading.

Gator, Here in Florida February through April is the best time to find them. It is the best time to plant them as well. Planting a new peach in July is just tough on the tree.....in February they leaf out under cool conditions and get themselves off to a good start. I am a firm believer that plants that roar from the start continue to do so and those that struggle from the start tend to continue to struggle. I have 3 UF beauty (8 peach trees total) and man do those things GROW. They went from just a 2 foot tall stick 17 months ago to now pushing a 20' across canopy. Far as where I don't know spots in Orlando. You can look on Craigs list? I see them listed there normally bareroot tress and in my opinion bareroot or just recently potted is what you want. Don't amend the soil in the planting hole just straight in to the native sand then mulch the heck out of it. I mulched those sticks with a 10 foot diameter of mulch on day 1 and it was 10" thick. It really helps on our sand. If you want to take a bit of a drive I picked up my 8 trees at Bluestar nursery in Hawthorne they are awesome. $12 a tree and they have several hundred peach trees in stock. I think they start selling them March 1? They are also a pretty big blueberry nursery if you are interested and have about 30 varieties on hand and probably 10,000++ bushes available for sale. Here is a picture of a couple of my 17 month old UF Beauty's, this morning. you picked a good variety.

Cotehele: I was alarmed when I read in one of your posts that you got a large piece of silpat to cut down for use in your convection oven. I wondered about that after reading these posts and went to the manufacturer's website to learn more. The DeMarle website specifically states not to cut silpat or use sharp instruments on it. It has fiberglass in it and the fiber glass can migrate to food if the surface is cut. That can't be a good thing. They even go so far as to say to store it flat, not folded, to wash with warm water, not to scrub it and to air dry it. I am still not a fan but I might try it again and see if I can overcome my aversion to the greasy feel of the thing. I do prefer the aesthetic of parchment paper though.

If the staff at her home has an aversion to them, would you be willing to wash them for her and return them to her on a regular basis, Azzalea? If so, I would make her a special bag to put them into, maybe make it out of hankies, with a drawstring, and whenever you visit, take it home and wash them for her, bag and all (separately, though, not still tied up in the bag) and then return them to her. Would you do that and could she remember to put them in the bag? I think that would be a lovely gift to her- to let her hang onto her little bit of nostalgia. While I've never been a fan of hankies, I can certainly see where some ladies would. Those little dainties are so sweet and ladylike, even if they are all icky. lol

A friend of mine gave me a wonderful gift of different types of L'Occatane products.
I love the cuticle cream, but not sure about the shea butter skin cream. I think it stinks. It probably works great, but don't like the smell enough to use it and it has a waxy thickness to it.
Try some samples (maybe at a mall?) before you buy. I would not buy it myself, and my skin has been dry all my life. Aging is not making things any easier, but I would use something else if given the chance.

I've used Palmers Cocoa Butter for years...they also make a Shea Butter...(i buy it at Walmart..6 bucks for a huge tub!) I didn't like it as well as the cocoa butter...It comes in a solid form in a round jar and will really grease you up! I don't mess with the lotion...total waste of time in my opinion!! When you work in an enviroment of ZERO humidity, you need all the help you can get!

After you do the milking, like with cows, you have to wait for a while for the cream to rise, then skim it off.

Then churn.

Don't know how long it takes.

I found a product with shea butter that had good reviews. Its called Skin Tight by Nourish. It is suppose to firm your skin. It is not for the face but fot the body. I love it! This product is to be sold at tanning salons and spas. However i found it on Ebay. Does my skin look younger? I would like to think so. I do know that it feels great. Give it a try.

I've been buying Shea Butter from this e-tailer since 2003. Her fragrances are TO DIE for! The scent list is on the left hand side of the screen, second from the bottom. I suggest printing it off to read more thoroughly because she has a LOT of scents.

Babe Cakes Body Icing is 55% Shea Butter, but she also offers 100% Shea Butter and a couple of other products with Shea in them.

She mixes your order from scratch and she ships from Canada so turnaround time can be about 2 weeks, but it is definitely worth the wait.

I hope you love it as much as I do.

joyfulguy, any idea what they use the "skim milk" for? Might be a market for that if we can get our hands on it. Opens up a whole new possibility for beauty products, not that I need any (yet!)
