Our local Goodwill store accepts and sells LPs and cassettes.

We have a working record player and cassette player, so we have kept most of ours.

Just this morning we were talking about vinyls. There is now a BIG trend for them! They have turntables that are USB to go right onto your puter! There was something on the CBS morning show about this shortly after we were talking about it.

I sure wouldn't just dump them...depending on what they are..music type..there might be people looking for them. Craig's list would be a great start.

You can get a machine that will record your LPs onto a CD ... how cool is that?

You can use them in crafts, I know of one craft that has you placing a record on an overturned bowl and placing both in a LOW oven, and the record melts and turned into a bowl.

I'm sure there are other crafts out there too, but that's the one I want to try one of these days.

Craig's List or Freecycle will be good too, we gave away about 500 LPs last year and had a bazillion calls when we posted them. LOTS of interest.

One Xmas-I had many teens to gift so I took LP's..ground out the center hole a bit more, bought clock works & made wall clocks. You can even decoupage a photo onto the center before placing the clock works thru-perhaps in a theme of interest to the person you're making it for?

I have one when we first landed on the moon, in the 60's

You can donate them to Goodwill. They sell them.

Thanks for the ideas. My daughter has made clocks before I'll pass that suggestion along to her. And my husband suggested offering some to the senior citizen center and retirement home.

I have been looking for old albums that my hubby likes for the covers - I have framed a number of album covers & he has them hung in his office - Eric Clapton, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, etc.

I would put them in craigslist if the covers are in good shape - someone may be looking for them!

Be sure to "check out" the artwork on the album covers. Some of the artists have become very well known and collectable over the years. Nanny

we sold ours to a place called Rainy Day records. they sell used albums. Made a few dollars and then donated the rest. Yeah, if you like the album covers, you might want to take 3 or 5 or whatever and frame them for you wall.

I thought I'd be rich when I offered some old LP's to a local record store. I think he gave me $5 for about 50 albums.

You can also make bowls out of them - won't hold liquid stuff, but popcorn, jewelry, anything like that. You turn the oven on to a 200-250. Place metal bowl or pot in center of baking pan. Place record in center of inverted pot or bowl and place in oven. It will start to get floppy-looking about 7-8 minutes. Take the baking pan with everything on it out of oven. You can either use oven mitts to shape it a little more or use another bowl to put it in to shape it if you want another shape. Let it cool 10-15 minutes. Makes really cute gifts - especially if someone likes a certain group!

I heard that vinyls were making a big comeback. We have a machine that will turn them into CD's. I gave one to my DH for Christmas last year.

Where I live there are stores that specialize in selling vintage vinyl. You would probably not get a lot for them but they would not end up in a landfill.

Goodwill will accept them too and I'm sure they would get snapped up off of CL.

Be sure to check if any of them happen to be unopened, and if you find any, don't just give them away or sell them for a buck - lot's of unopened albums sell for significant amounts of money on ebay and other selling sites.

Advertise in the local paper. I have a good friend that makes a living from buying and selling old vinyl. You would be amazed at how many want them. What type of music do you have. Rock? Classical? Folk? It really depends what you have.

Can I ask what kind of music they are? I still use records and would be happy to buy any from you if they are ones I would listen to!

A friend's teenage daughter used them as "wallpaper" in her bedroom, she just did one wall behind her bed and it looked really cool. Would be fun in a game room.

Problem solved- one of my sons happened to call and I mentioned we were cleaning out the basement and trying to donate things we didn't need. He immediately said that he wanted the albums. That absolutely floored me. He had never shown any interest in them before. So they're all packed neatly in some plastic totes and he'll pick them up this weekend.
