?How to transfer music from 33LP to computer?

We have a 33LP record that we would like to burn to a CD.

Just how do we do this? We purchased a Audio cable from

Radio Shack and was told how to do this using either Input or Output connection, computer and old record player. We did not do it when we came home and now several months later we are ready and have forgotten what we were told.

"Record Player" -- the physical turntable -- must be built together with pre-amp or coupled to pre-amp then connected to computer. Your computer won't know what to do with raw turntable signal.

If your "record player" is already built as a unit including pre-amp, your output should be fine. If yours is stand-alone turntable, you'll need to connect through pre-amp first, then connect pre-amp output to computer.

I used the free program Audacity when I transfered LP's. You can do an internet search and find sites such as www.blazeaudio.com to show you how to connect the cables. I did this over a year ago so my mind is a little fuzzy on the details, but these sites had alot of helpful info on them.

Certainly Open Office is a viable alternative to Microsoft Office depending on your needs because the two platforms are not 100% compatible. Certainly you can try Open Office and see if it meets your needs. I don't know about Quicken but I would imagine there is some kind of "export" feature. Whether you use that in a newer version of Quicken or move on, is up to your. I hear good things about Mint (.com) but haven't used it personally. Microsoft has discontinued Money.

Have you purchased songs and/or video that are protected? If so, you'll also want to make sure you decommission the old PC AFTER transferring the songs and videos. With protected content, there's a limit to how many devices it can be copied to. I don't think decommission is the right word, but it's something like that. It frees that license so you can transfer to another computer. One way I've done it is to just copy the itunes folder in My Music to an external drive, then copy that to the new computer.

I'm now leaning more towards doing the transfers through external hard drive (gulp) - however, I'm confused on how to hook up the new computer with the old computer still hooked up. Would I just plug it in, and then connect it to our wireless home network? It seems the (old) monitor has only one hook-up spot which the old computer is plugged into. Should I wait for the new monitor to arrive (which is supposed to be about a month from now according to the estimated delivery date)? Or do I need the new computer hooked into a monitor just for transferring data? Now I'm thinking maybe I just need the new computer plugged into the monitor, and the XP computer not plugged in - lol - I'm confused. Maybe I should wait until everything arrives.

While various little known programs exist that will convert the ra/rm RealPlayer to common formats, they may be a little hit and miss as to how well they work. A quick look at the Real website does show that the newest free version of RealPlayer for Windows does in fact have the capability to convert and transfer your entire library to a portable device. (See link below.) As a side note: There has been rumors of Microsoft discontinuing Zune hardware but Microsoft claims that they are simply just not bringing out new models, will be continuing the current models, and will continue to incorporate Zune into Windows based mobile phones. A great program for doing this is Acoustica-Spin-It-Again.
You can download a free trial and I think they'll let you do 3 recordings for free. It also has great instructions and pictures about where to plug the audio cables and I think a demo on exactly what to do.
