Opinions on Horizontal Lift-Up Door Upper Cabinets?
Comments (12)I have 4 of them, and I find them very useful. I like the way they look, and the way they open means I can leave them open while cooking certain dishes and just take items from the cabinet as I work (pantry items). They're a great functional choice over a work surface. Two downsides--the hinges take up room inside the cabs and leave certain areas that can't be stuffed with stuff, and I have the Ferrari hinges (plus lots of extras that Ikea gave me when I complained). They do need adjustment and possibly replacement. I, too, have been caught holding a cabinet open with my own little head. mindstorm--is it a straight swap for the Blum Aventos? If you read this, can you provide more detailed information?...See Moredoor fell off lift garage door
Comments (3)If the handle that came off left a short shaft sticking out, you could grip that wiih a large pliers and turn it to disengage the locking mechanism. If the shaft came out with the handle, is there sny way to reinsert it?...See Morelift-up vs traditional cabinet door advice
Comments (22)There are differences in lift up doors and flip up doors, so be sure you're being clear as to what you are asking about. I love how they look, but the primary reason I don't care for lift up doors are that they block the cabinet above when open. (And I could just reorganize my stuff better, for sure.) If you store small stuff in the lower cabinet, and lesser used (but you still need to get to it) stuff in the upper shelf of a standard cabinet, you can still get to everything when you open the door. I put my large spice containers on the top shelf, and my small ones on the lower shelves. So, I have the large thing of peppercorns and granulated garlic above. But, I use the granulated garlic enough that I don't download it into a smaller container, I use it straight from the big container. Bi-fold flip/lift up, which is more accessible Regular lift up, which blocks the cabinet above. Flip up, which will block the upper cabinet. And yes, you will never see horizontal wall cabinets like those in a traditional kitchen. And very few of them in a transitional kitchen. Stressing the horizontal plane is a hallmark of modern design. You will see a lot of single short horizontal or stacked horizontal cabinets in modern design. I do LOVE how they look in that type of kitchen, but it may require a bit of a reorganizing the contents for efficiency sale....See MoreModify cabinet from door & drawer to single door with mixer lift?
Comments (11)I LOVE my Kitchenaid. I used it all the time in my last house, which I had a mixer lift in. I'm in temporary housing on OH how I miss it! I still don't know if we will build new or buy this place and renovate- but either way the mixer lift is a must-have! I'm also tickled to find out that I can replace some of the cabinets with drawers- if I can do this, there's no reason at all to replace the whole kitchen, which will save us $10,000+...See Morebusybme
