Try this on your sample... A few drops of red wine. Let it sit for 10 minutes and you have a permanent stain. I did this and can provide pictures.

This light color requires lots of upkeep and maintenance (read sealing, and re-sealing). I am staying away from it for that exact reason.

I also tried this on Silestone and Caesarstone samples, both turned out fine. I tried it on ECO (green version of Silestone) and it stained. :( So it's a good test to do on any counter you expect to actually use.

OCJeff, did you do that on sealed or unsealed samples?

I know everyone says that the maintenance of light granite is a lot. But sealing is super easy and isn't it only yearly? So if someone really falls for a light granite, that doesn't seem like that much maintenance to me. I've been reading up on different counter choices online and the pros and cons. It seems like what are deemed as cons by consumers are more overblown than what is actually found to be true (this is what I've read from suppliers of all types of surfaces). Anyone with light granite here that can weigh in on this?

I'm sure it was an unsealed sample, straight from the slab yard.

I would agree that a sealed sample would hold up better, but I'm bad with upkeep, and I'm sure I wouldn't be re-sealing the counter every year, either out of a busy schedule, or just not wanting to deal with the task. So eventually it would act more like the unsealed sample.

This is obviously me, maybe others would be more meticulous about the annual maintenance. I have a 1 year old running around, and I don't see myself finding that much free time that I wouldn't rather be relaxing than working to re-seal the counter even if it is just 1 weekend out of the 52 available.

Maintenance aside, I think it's a great color selection. If you plan to keep up with the annual maintenance I'm sure it would be rather stain resistant.

Dear OCJeff, Thanks for the advise about staining of light granites like Kashmir White. I would probably get a honed slab and would plan to seal it regularly. (My babies are 14 and 21 years old-- so I have a lot more time on my hands than you do!)

I do worry about the chemicals in the sealers and food safety. It doesn't seem ideal to be putting that many chemicals on a surface one uses for kneading bread and other food prep. Do other have ideas about this?

I've had Delicatus White granite for 9 months now...I would not hesitate in getting a white granite..No staining at all..They sealed it when they installed it..and as babs said, sealing is very easy. I sealed my backsplash and feel confident that I can seal my granite. Just wipe on and wipe off...

If you are concerned about it, maybe start a thread asking if people with white granites (specifically honed) have had any problem..

My SIL has Kashmir white and some tomato sauce left a stain that she cannot get out. It happened within a couple months of installation. She said it was sealed by the fabricator.

OCJeff, My kids are almost-6 and 9. My husband and I work full time and we're about to build a house. But I feel like once a year is something I'd take the time to do, probably over the holidays when I'm home for two weeks. But I remember what it was like to have an infant/toddler. They do certainly keep you busy!

Mountaineergirl, I remember reading on here about different sealing methods. I wish I could find the posts. I wonder how they sealed it. I know many here have had no problems.

We haven't sold our current house yet and aren't ready to build yet. But this thread has me curious. I want to go get some samples and test them out!

I have valley white (which is also called white river and perhaps white spring), and I noticed that the colors are very similar to kasmir white. Mine has quite a bit more movement though. I've had it for a couple months and am in love! My granite fabricators strongly preferred polished though, which is what mine is. They think that honed stains easier, even with the dark granites (I know that people have had jet mist though with no problems on here).

Dear Noellabelle, Your white river granite is very, very pretty and does look a lot like my sample of Kashmir White. I'll look for White River and White spring next time I'm in the granite yard.

Quite by accident my DH did a stain test on our Kashir White sample this morning, putting his coffee mug on it. The result was a big round coffee stain. It has lightened over the course of the day, but is still noticeable. We assume that the small sample from the granite yard was not sealed. Let's hope that a sealed piece would have held up better.

Although I didn't end up with either, I looked at both River white and Kashmir. River White was very pretty and I preferred it to the Kashmir White.
