Boxes, boxes, and more boxes!

Am I the only person who saves boxes??? I am not a packrat. My house is not filled with stuff. I like it clean and simple. But for some reason I keep boxes just in case I might need them again.

I have been cleaning out my utility/laundry room. When I clean, I throw lots of stuff away. The biggest part of my trash today has been empty boxes! I know I threw away 12 empty boxes that cell phones came in. I am going to have so much room just by getting rid of empty boxes! I'm so excited. Now if I could just control my box-saving self, I might could keep that room clean!

Does anyone else have this problem? Or what it is that you hoard? (and then throw away when you do your Spring cleaning?)

Oh yea...I have what DH calls a "shipping room". Boxes stacked to the ceiling, a barrel and boxes full of peanuts and bubble wrap. All for eBay cause you never know what size box you'll need so I have to save them all. I've thought about putting half of them on Freecycle for another ebayer.

I would take a picture, but don't want to embarrass myself.

Oh yes, I've got all kinds and shapes in the basement. With packing peanuts, and bubble wrap. I may need them for sending something to DD in California. NOT Maybe I'll break som of them down and stack them somewhere, and pitch the rest.

After creating and saving a Viking Rose file (HUS) which has positions 1,2, & 3 on a 5 x 7 hoop, I transfer it to an Ultimate card. When sewing it out, positions 2 & 3 are always mis-aligned. I have a Vista operating system. I do my customising in VIP Customising (HUS) and Embird32 2010. It makes no difference from which program I save the design, it never stiches out in the proper position (2 & 3) of my 5 x 7 lapped hoop. When I used to have Windows XP and a Viking card reader box, it always worked right. The new computer does not have the old 25 pin hookup, so I cold not use the old box. Is there an adapter which will switch a 25 pin to a USB that will work, or does the Ultimate Box have a fix for this? The Ultimate Box sure does not work!!

thanks for all the help and suggestions. I've temporarily moved the snacks from the upper cabinet to a pull out in the pantry because I realized that my vertically challenged (just barely 5') 15 year old can't reach the 2nd shelf in the uppers without a stepstool. (and I didn't want the snacks on the 1st shelf as the undercab lighting gets a bit warm and we don't want melty chocolate things) so for now, I've relocated snacks to the pantry and canned goods and that sort of thing to the 2nd shelf of the 24" upper. Actually I have plenty of room on that one shelf for soups, sauces, and unopened salad dressing. hmm maybe this is where they'll stay or maybe I"ll move something else there. But I think I like the canned goods better stacked up...we'll see. but I still think I need a different solution longterm.

Depending on local laws you may not have to pay anything for the service drop upgrade. Virginia used to be home and may still be) to free upgrades from the pole to the meter pan with a service upgrade. For a long time Dominion Power would even give you a meter base for the asking so you would use their preferred one. The POCO has to get power to your meter base. prill... I have no idea how much that tile is or if I can buy it directly. I found it while playing yesterday. I must have googled every combination of words relating to tile possible. The manufacturer is Soli. I'm jumping way ahead (for a change) cause I probably won't be able to afford the SS until the beginning of the year... never mind the backsplash. But save I will and I won't be in a rush. I've waited 3 years, I might as well hunker down for the long haul cause I really don't want to compromise. Unless that is, that the tile is some ridiculous price like Ann Sacks tile. I won't go over a certain price per sq.ft. There's just too much pretty tile out there. pickles... I LOVE Danby marble and your slab looks beautiful. I actually had considered it as one of my choices for the entire kitchen. I am smitten with this SS though now. I'm hoping to find a marble remnant for the bakers table. I need approx. 72"x30"... I haven't slab shopped yet so i don't know if that qualifies as remnant size. In the meantime, I check craigslist daily... you never know! I spoke to Florida Joshua. When the time comes, he'll be able to do the SS for me. It'll involve some planning, and extra trip charges (we are about 3 1/2 hours away); but well worth the money to know that the fabrication will be absolutely perfect. I"m very very very excited. DH and I came to the decision, that come the end of the year; we'll permanently move into this house whether we're done or not. Then I'll be able to rent my house and save the money I need to do the things we want. First, I'll have to do some tweaking work to my house to get it top dollar rental ready.

I had that addiction up until recently. I had an intervention with my self. I am cured! I have just a few that I will use to get ready for a yard sale in the Spring.

I have things that I need to save "for the kids", like they are gonna want them? Not! I have just bought two clear Sterlite tubs, 16 quart size that I'm putting all the old family pictures in. These will go on a shelf in the garage and then it will be boxes begone!

I have a box fetish! I've never seen a box I didn't like. *L* Every now and then on garbage pickup day, I'll see a bag with odd shaped items in it at the curb and I just know Ken's tossing out my boxes!!

I used to. Since needing to clear out this house - I only keep what is useful while I'm sorting/boxing stuff into storage (I'm heartless at this). New electronics, I keep the box for 1 1/2 years in case the item breaks warranty and you need it with the receipt to ship for repair or swap at store. Most items will break within the first year. After that, they get broken down into the recycle pickup.
I understand keeping various sizes for people who sell on ebay but don't we all have our soft spots? I won't talk about my fabric collection...that is off limits and anything remotely related to sewing. Period.

old towels..i just can't seem to get rid of them always think i'm going to use them for cleaning that doesn't get done, either...lol

LOL at Susan! I save DH's old socks and use for dusting. (Put my hand inside and spray with polish.)

Yes, I do save boxes. What's with that, anyway? I'm glad I'm not alone, although DH does weed them out occasionally (he who saves more carp than anyone can imagine). I save the packing material and peanuts, too. With two GK's in college, I like to send them care packages.

I have to say though, that's about all I save....she says in order to justify herself.

Yes, ever since oldest headed off to college, I have been a box saver, and DH is even worse. She would need something mailed, and so if I had a box on hand, I could mail it right away. A special dress for a dance, her baseball glove, her costume for a party, etc. Kept that up through the next 2 in college, graduate school, and law school. I mail them a baked cake for their birthdays when they are in school, and that has to be a very special size, so sometimes I have to BUY that box. I hate spending good money for boxes, so I save them. With the last one finishing school this spring, the habit is no longer necessary, but it is ingrained, especially with DH. I have been known to supply boxes to friends who are moving!!!

I also save boxes,not a lot,as i try to keep it under control.But i'm always mailing stuff to the GK'S and for that i need a box.

I do break mine down and store them flat so they don't take up much room.

I really like the mens shoe boxes with the hinged lids,i find so many uses for them.Just cover in contact or pretty papers,decoupage etc.

It's a sickness i tell ya!!!

I love boxes. Once at work my boss threatened to fire me if I didn't take my neat boxes home. I got them home and still use a lot of them and that was over 20 years ago. Office supplies and printed copies of stuff came in the neatest boxes.

I love the standard Clorox boxes that I got from time to time in the grocery stores. They stack so neat and are easy to lable too.

Yup, boxes are stacked high here too. Ours are in the attic. All sizes, big and small... :) Usually nestled inside one another.

Need a box, tell me what size, and I'll go and get one. LOL

I used to save all the boxes from the computer paper at work. I used them to store things in my attic UNTIL I got overrun with Silverfish. They are a paper-eating insect. They are ugly and nasty, and about as bad as cockroaches. All my stuff in the attic was ruined, eaten by those blasted insects! I'll never save or use cardboard boxes again. There's a store near me that sells boxes, envelopes, tape, anything you might need for shipping things. Let THEM keep the boxes for me!
