Slim pants for 5 year old grandson??

My older grandson at 5 years of age is tall and slender. We finally found a few pants for him last year that were marked "slim" and had an adjustable waist with elastic straps that you could tighten from the waistband.

I went looking for size 5 for him yesterday, and of course it is the end of the season. However, the only place I found slims was WalMart, and they had only one pair in tan, which is the color DD wants. When I visited my sister yesterday, we hit her WalMart, and found another pair there.

I went to Macy's, but they had none and what they did carry was wide and very expensive. I tried Target too, but they didn't carry slims.

This boy has my father's long legs and tiny buns.

You'd think you could buy boys slim pants at all the stores, but I have had no such luck. Even summer shorts need to be narrowly cut. I can usually find elastic waists at WalMart again, but the adjustable kind are rare anywhere. Even with elastic waistbands, I still have to tke them in.

Anyone know a good place to buy slim pants in California?

Try Old Navy. I buy the size slim jeans there for my 10 yo ds. They also have pants for younger boys.

Oh my gosh, I think I have several solutions! Thank you all so much. We were actually going to measure his body from the waist down every couple of inches and then try to trace a pattern as suggested by Rob, but now I'm think that the duct tape is worth a try. I've just spent the last hour looking at the duct tape dress forms that people have made, including some videos. I think even if I can get one that would fit shorts, I could figure out the rest for pants. My main concern was how fabrics stretch more or less and a dress form like this would be perfect. I love the idea about the levi's as I would never be able to make something that looked as real. I will definately try that too. I'm thinking now that maybe I don't need it to match his weight, just his body. I can always put on additional layers as he grows. He lives about 35 minutes away so as lucky as I am to see him, it's not like I can easily try them on and run home to adjust. I think this will solve my dilema. Mustangs, thank you. Aaaaahhhhhhhh! Something similar happened last night w/ our 3 1/2yr old. He's been potty trained since about 3 but regressed the past 3wks and has pooped in his underwear. Since talking wasn't helping I went out and bought 3 more of his favorite Monster shirts (a different one for each day) and hung them up in the LR. I told him I was holding them hostage and each week he went w/o pooping he could pick one out. All wknd. he kept walking past them telling them how he was 'I GOING TO URN MY MONTAH HERT BACK!' (he has no volume control). So last night DS1 (the one that threw the rock and has been grounded) was very good in all ways and manners last night for DH. DS2 overheard DH telling DS1 that he noticed how attentive he was and did everything asked right away and that he really appreciated it. So DS2 pipes in "YOU LIKE ME TOO DADDY?! I DIDN'T POOP IN MY HANTIES FAH A WHOLE WEEK! I A GOOD BOY!" Love 'em to pieces! He woke up to a monster shirt today.

Wow you guys rock!!! Ok I'm being somewhat lazy on the sewing thing now (yes I can do it but I have to finish this house before we move in the fall so I haven't gotten to it). I figure in the future I'll be able to fix his jeans myself (thanks for the ideas....I was going to search that later LOL) but sheesh, just from this group of posts I found six pairs of jeans :) I bought the Calvins and the Wranglers, and am working on the rest :) Old Navy and Gap are unfortunately too big even cinched up on the last button hole of the adjustable waists. Lisa my husband caught this thread right at the big butt comment...we lost our drinks :oP The man-pries was a good one too LOL We'll start a new fashion :) I have to admit, I hate draw string pants and sweats. I know someday I'll have to give in to his wishes for comfort, but until he whines, I want a more tailored look...they look so much better with his collection of knit golf vests (he'll kill me for telling anyone about that when he's older LOL) I've had great luck at a place called "Once Upon A Child" which sells used baby cloths. I haunt the rack for anything by Polo (they fit skinny kids really well) but as he gets bigger (ok taller) I ssee less and less of them. Ok back to my wine as I shop :) Really thanks all for the fabulous ideas :) You rock!!

The Gap used to sell the with a hidden elastic pull tab and buttons.

JC Penney used to be the only place I could by slims for my daughter. Don't know if they still sell them but you could google or call the store close to you.

Good luck! Those skinny little kids sure are hard to fit, aren't they?

Well, I have checked all the above suggestions ON LINE, and they don't carry slims. Maybe they do in the stores.
I wonder if it is a mark of the recession and they don't sell them these days.

When my grandson was that age and very slim....we found that the girls slims fit him and were more easily found. (No sparkles or anything back then...might be a problem today.)

I remember when my 31-year old DGS was that age...very long and slim like his dad. DD couldn't find any jeans to fit, but one day found a pair in the "free" box at a garage sale. And they were a perfect fit. Of course, when she tried to find them in a store, no such luck.

Did you try ordering them from Wal-Mart....I couldn't find some jeans I wanted so I got the upc out of the ones I had and looked them up on the website and ordered them ..Had them delivered to the store so no shipping fee......

Yes - Old Navy. I have a Grandson who wears extra slim and we get them at O.N.

Sears. That's where DD gets Damien's. Or Target. He's hard to fit, too. Size 8 slim, almost too short now, and still loose in the waist.
