Comments (9)I also think it will work either way, but I'm going to be completely biased and say DON'T give up your marble! Your DH should get his marble and it's such a beautiful, timeless material which I think ties into the feel of what you're doing with the floor--which sounds stunning. The white of the cabs and the white marble against the dark floor is going to be beautiful (but again, I'm biased since I have darkish wood floors and white cabs). I also love butcherblock and gave that up for my island. I wouldn't say I outright regret it, but I do still sigh for it now and then. So I understand how you could also see butcherblock working well. Could be too much wood, though, maybe? There I go again pushing for the marble!...See MoreVintage kitchen floor ideas
Comments (14)I like your floor, pamplemouse! Lavendar, have you looked into VCT Tiles? I LOVE them and would have used them had I not revealed my home's original linoleum and found it in excellent condition. Home Depot has them for 79 cents a square foot tile and they come in almost 100 colors, just about any color one might want from subtle to extreme. The even have one called Lavendar Shadow. Home Depot VCT Tile Collection Check out this search page of some amazing floors done in checkerboard, plaids, and all sorts of other patterns, again from subtle to vibrant to extreme. I bet you'd have fun with this. Oh, and very easy DIY, too....See MoreHELP! rug ideas for checkered floor
Comments (20)I don't think you have room for a rug. It should be 36-42" inches larger than the table top all around, yet not run into doors, walls, baseboards or your railings. You don't want the chairs to fall off of it when pulled out and sat in. Your chairs also have a larger footprint than a standard legged chair, so they need more rug under them. Pull one out and sit down. Then get up and leave the chair pulled out. Put tape on the floor at the point where the chair base is. That's the minimum placement for the rug. so you can calculate the size you need, and I fear it will be too big to fit your floor area....See MoreBlack and White Checkered Floor
Comments (28)@Jan Moyer, @User my kitchen is a wide galley kitchen. It is adjacent to the dining room. All of the floors in the house are hardwood, but for some reason, the previous owners I bought the home from, decided to stain the kitchen floor a different color (or perhaps they couldn't match the original stain). So, that is the reason I've been exploring other options. Also, I just love the classic look of the black and white checkerboard flooring. I think it would look fine next to the hardwood floor in the dining area....See MoreRelated Professionals
