The tea sandwiches I have had in Great Britain are just any old kind of bread you like that goes with the filling. Something that is a color contrast. Then the crust is cut off and the sandwiches are cut into quarters. Either on the diagonal or square. People also use cookie cutters to make them in other cool shapes. I can't be bothered to do that and I can't be bothered to cut off the crust--too much waste for my taste. But I guess the idea is they are iniform and you can see more of the filling that way. I have done the premade phyllo cups with filling for teas. A friend took me to a real English afternoon tea once at a fancy hotel in London and I have been hooked on teas ever since. The menu was loads of hot tea that kept being refilled, a tiered tray with scones, sandwiches, and some other kinds of sweets I can't quite remember, and clotted cream for the scones. Served with white linen, china and silver, in highbacked chairs with a roaring fire in the fireplace nearby. Since it was awful December weather it was wonderful. I think the sandwiches were some kind of salmon filling, watercress with cream cheese, and maybe something else eggy, it was 20 years ago so I can't remember exactly.

I still had lots of food in the house, but DH told me to go ahead and stock up since he'll probably be on the road for 5-6 weeks this time and the immediate future of our para-transit sytem is iffy at best right now due to budget cuts. (We won't know its fate until March 19. On the 22nd, we'll either have it or it's immediately gone.) So, hey, I'm no dummy. I stocked up. Trader Joes - greek yogurt eggs Cheddar cheese bacon almonds frozen haibut frozen green beans frozen mixed veggies frozen mixed peppers frozen naan butter canned diced tomatos quinoa mustard Regular Grocery Store bread Tortillas raisins black beans lentils canned tuna (my lucky day - albacore at .79 a can!) 5# chicken breasts (on sale at .99 a pound!) 2# pork bag of baking potaotes 2 cucumbers 3 onions 2 gree peppers # asparagas quart strawberries 1/2 gal milk canned mixed fruit # bananas # mushrooms garlic limes flour olive oil freezer bags pinto beans # coffee 2 boxes tea bags On the clearance shelf, we found organic pommegranate juice, V8, cherry juice and peanuts for $1.00 eash. The store isn't going to carry them anymore. So we got two each of those. And I had coupons for two free bottles of laundry soap that expire at the end of the month, so I got those now. Total - too much. OTOH, I'm set for another 4-5 weeks except highly perishable items like lettuce or milk. (Althogh I have some canned milk if I really need it.) That doesn't include the things we get for DH to take on the road as I consider his road supplies separate from my grocery budget.

definately a BLT! When I make sandwiches for lunch, I make two, one for me and one for DH. Recently we were sitting here munching on BLTs, and as I was getting toward the end of the sandwich, I asked DH if he noticed that --- when we have BLTs, he NEVER gets that last 1/4 of my sandwich that I usually can't finish. He said "I sure did notice that!" I never turn over that last portion to him when it is a BLT, but every other kind I do -- oh, wait I also always finish a grilled cheese (but the is a winter sandwich.)

Yes Mustangs! I have not forgotten our Trader Joes date either, life has seriously gotten away from me since I moved back. I have either been at the doctors which I spend a lot of time at, sick or recently and upcomming hosting friends who I haven't seen since I moved away 20 years ago and catching up on the activities I have missed so much like going to the State Fair last weekend and enjoying the Strawberry festival which will be here soon. I also plan to go to the MacDill airshow which was something my grandfather and I did together when I was a child. In April I have 3 straight weeks of company coming 1 set comes in first week of April leaves the 9th and the next set comes in the 10th of April leaving the 20th whew. I will be attending the Food and Wine Festival at Busch Gardens first week in March do you go to that at all? Also going to the Bands, Brew and Que at Sea World next weekend. The last weekend in March I do plan to do a Wholefoods and Trader Joe shop in Tampa I believe off of Dale Mabry to prepare for the incomming company I will have maybe we could plan to meet up then, do some shopping and have some lunch?
