Cool and crisp. Picked partridgeberries while the trim dried.
So much to do but so much easier with cooler temps.
Neighbor put fresh garden garlic in our storm door handle...
Heard the grocery has big bags of local beets, always so cheap, (25 cents a lb) as everyone here 'puts up'. (cans)

Annie, next year, you should make a YouTube video with musical accompaniment. Looks like a beautiful bounty of summer fruits and vegetables!

My cousin and I were just reminiscing yesterday about going to our grandmother's house for a week of canning and freezing about this time every year when we were children.

My neighbor Debbie is hosting her annual corn shucking and freezing party on Monday. I think it will be about 275 ears this year. We already made and froze chicken corn soup and beef vegetable soup.

I'm jealous. We're having highs in the upper 90's, (at least not the 100's!) My tomatoes are gone, the few I got, and I don't have room for much more. I'm so happy for you, though. You are an inspiration. As soon as I get to move up to Tahlequah, that garden is going in and I'll be learning to can and freeze and dry and.....

Nope, no YouTube videos for me. I have never been able to learn how to post a video on YouTube although I tried for about 3 minutes and lost interest and patience, LOL. I can't even find anything on YouTube!

Sol, as you know, I'm too technologically inept to successfully start a blog. I tried and could not get it to ever work, I couldn't get it "on-line", I couldn't figure out how to register it, it was a disaster. After days of frustration, I gave up. That was several years ago and perhaps it's easier now, but I'm still struggling with Windows 8, I haven't figured out how to play music on the iPod (and got so disgusted that I took all the CDs out to the farm for storage and gave up on music), don't have a "smart" phone and every time I touch Elery's Kindle something happens to it.

Nope, no blogs for me. I'm just happy I learned to use Photobucket.

Sidnee, I'm all good, it's the most wonderful time of the year, LOL, and I just made Autumn Olive Jelly, a past time I only recommend to those who enjoy endless tedium and painful thorns. I have about a bushel and a half of apples that will be "dealt with" tomorrow.

I love my Chemex, I even roast my own green beans and grind the coffee. I get my filters from Amazon, Elery has Amazon Prime and so the shipping is free, at least. I've never seen Chemex filters anywhere around here in stores.

Maggie, I'm past the back to school celebration, but I remember it. (grin)

You're doing great! Looks like you're enjoying your emotional outlet. I was kinda sad Staples didn't do their back to school commerical this year, the one with the mom happily tossing school supplies as the forlorn kids look on. So now, my void has been filled by canning. And you. Happy autumn!

Here's what I harvested recently - mostly habaneros, and I finished making the sauce yesterday. I grilled all the chilies, plus a couple of red bell peppers and about eight cloves of garlic, and then put the chilies through the food mill after chopping them and pureeing them a bit. I peeled them as much as I could before chopping them. When I did clean-up afterwards, I should have worn a mask because fumes from the chilies almost made me choke, and they definitely opened my sinuses. It's going to be a very hot sauce - I haven't tasted it yet, more than just to taste my fingers, and Kevin asked why I made it so hot. I told him that I would not have to use very much at a time and that therefore it should last a long time. I didn't can it, but I did add vinegar and salt, but I will probably freeze some of it. It made about one cup of sauce.

My favorite time of year is April-May when my orchid cactus bloom, but a lot of my bromeliads are still blooming now, and so I like that. I have a couple of pineapples that are ready to harvest, but they are sort of small but still very cute. My large pineapple is not even close to being ready to harvest, but I have yuzu fruit that are almost ripe, and these will be my first.

I think I would like this time of year better if I had more to harvest like you do, and I was rather disappointed with my tomato plants this year. In Venice I had a lot of figs to harvest, but they got ripe at the hottest time of year, and so it was unpleasant to stand over a stove to make the fig jam.

Don't you love the look of your fall harvest? I just left three huge buckets of tomatoes and potatoes on my neighbours front step (I eliminated nightshades last week and don't want any temptation :(). I am going to harvest my carrots after the first frost - my experiment to see if it produces a sweeter carrot, so what I read. We'll see. You are still harvesting green beans? Do you plant two crops or just a late one? I have to learn seeding techniques so I better control of when my produce is ready. Nice pics.
