Help!! Half a crayon in the dryer

Well I started folding a load of clothes and noticed that the first few had a brownish stain. After dumping the load and checking it out I realized that half a brown crayon had made its way into my load of laundry. With 4 kids it is surprising that this was the first time:) Luckily they clothes weren't completely dried but now I need to figure out how to clean the clothes and get the stains out. Unfortunately they were the kids and Dan's Sunday dress clothes (isn't that always the case) Any hints or helps would be great. I have been using the homemade powdered laundry soap with Fels Naptha as my laundry soap, don't know if a commercial soap would be better.

I don't have an answer for you, but do want to say that I hope you can save the clothes. I did a Google search and there are several remedies on this one website I found. Scroll down through it and it even gives you 'recipes'. Hopefully someone on the KT can give you a very easy and effective solution.

I use a product called De-Solv-It - it is an "orange cleaner" - it is a citrus basic solution. It does a very good job on crayons. I use it mostly for heavy grease and oil on DH's work clothes - but did use in on some crayon mishaps when the kids were younger. It also takes crayon off of furniture and cabinets - first hand knowledge there! LOL

If you can't find that Goo Gone is a similar product, but the De-Solv-It works better. You could also give WD40 a try. Try a small spot first.

Once you treat the stains with De-Solv-It or whatever you use, wash in hot water. I don't use the homemade stuff - I use liquid Tide - and I don't add anymore than regular, but I do use hot water.

My DH has always willingly done the "heavy stuff". When we lived in the city he'd turn the garden by hand (no tiller then) and look after the lawn. Built stuff like decks and wooden furniture, too. I did all the rest of the gardening. Now we live on a large acreage and he's pounded posts, hauled large rocks in the tractor bucket, rototilled, done concrete and rock work, and mows the lawn. He has different ideas than I do, was reluctant to give up roundup and weed-n-feed when I went organic but has complied - says he's using round-up this year on our long weedy driveway again tho. :-( Not complaining, I don't know of an alternative. Years ago when I had a business and didn't have much time for the garden he started weeding - that was the year I wondered where a lot of my perennials went! LOL He's learned since to not weed too early and recognizes more of the plants. I have given up growing most veggies as it's easier to buy them in bulk at the farmers' market. We're both retired now and do the gardening together, he weeds and mows, and I plan and plant. This year the garden area is being enlarged so he'll be rototilling, building a garden house, and lifting/moving rocks and anything heavy. Oh, he also now does a lot of the cooking and the heavy cleaning. I won't let him near the laundry tho as he's never learned to sort!

I bought some Goo Gone at the dollar store to remove some adhesive residue from the glass of a picture frame. In reading the label I noticed that it can be used on crayon and chewing gum. I tried it on both (dark green crayon on the wall and fossilized gum in an old carpet) and it performed miracles. It literally melted the crayon and gum away. And it smells wonderful. If you use it on your carpet you do need to wash it out with soapy water after doing the stain removal, but I'd recommend giving Goo Gone a try. I've seen it in grocery stores and Home Depot as well as Dollar Tree where I bought it.

Thanks for your help. When I didn't get an answer by Sunday morning I decided it was better to try something than to let the crayon continue to sit on the fabric. So I sprayed with Spray and Wash, let sit overnight and washed in the washing machine in cold water (because of the type fabric) and it came completely clean. Beverly

Re-wash the load immediatly in as hot of water as you dare, that could remove the crayon. You may want to pre-treat the spots with DAWN dishsoap. If the crayon is still kind of "warm", it could come off very easily (BTDT)

When that happened to me I rewashed the clothes with baking soda. That has been many years ago so I don't remember how much, but knowing me, I probably put in the whole box. You can check on Google and see if you find a recommendation for baking soda and how much.

monkeymamaof4...I'm a mom of 4, also!

This happened to me a few years back, and I do not remember the specifics, but I do know I called Crayola. Believe it or not, crayon removal is one of the very 1st options on their voicemail system. Tells you this is something that happens more often than one would think!

Good luck...I do remember it was a tedious procedure, but it did work!

Well I rewashed in hot water using my homemade soap which has borax which was one recommendation, I also added 2 cups vinegar, another thing was my mom used to soak clothes in Cascade so added some of that too. I have let it sit for 5 hours and am going to wash and see if it comes out, if not try again with the Tide, borax, vinegar and shout recipe. Luckily we have pretty hot water so hope that it gets out one way or another:)

I shouldn't complain after 10 years of being a teacher and mother of little ones this is the first time and Dan is also a teacher, so lots of crayons and pens in our house.

I used the Crayola site for someone else awhile back. Under parents they have a stain removal section. You need to click on crayons and then whatever type they were.

My only suggestion is to check the dryer drum thoroughly to make sure there's nothing on the drum or it could put you right back to square one!

There is a product by Motsenbockers called Lift Off. I would try the adhesive, grease and oily stain removing one, which is the one they recommend under their FAQ section. They have several and we use them at work on linens. And when our trucks were tagged with graffiti, they had one for that too. We found it at the Home Depot. Good luck.
