What is the best way to transport a 200lb-300lb bike?

I am thinking about buying my first bike, and it will be probably a dirt bike (Suzuki DR-Z250?) or a dual sport/enduro bike.

However, I am still not sure how to tranport such a bike. I have a mini-van with class III hitch, and I was looking at bike carrier that attaches to class III hitch (about $150-$200), the other option would be to use small utlility trailer 4x8'.

Is there any better way to haul a 200-300lb bike?

Has anybody had bad or good experience with small trailer or bike carrier?

How about taking the back seats out of the van and hauling it inside?

I use a a 4x8 trailor to carry my KX100 and two pitbikes. Its is definately crowded and took me a few test runs before I got it right, but it works well. Also, if I ever need to haul anything the trailor is extremely handy vs those motocycle only trailors.

If you try to fit a DRZ250 in the back of your van, please take pictures and video the whole ordeal. Then post them here for our entertainment purposes. I am sure it will be somewhere near the funniest thing I have ever seen. Not trying to rag on your suggestion JD but the the idea makes me laugh. The seat height alone is about 3 ft on that bike. Then you have to worry about handle bars, they push the overall height to about 4ft.

Don, back in the sixties, hospital admissions were in the newspapers, as were accidents. Most papers have historical archives. Shouldn't take more than a visit or a phone call to locate the papers for that week. You'll have a name, and likely a home of records, anyway. It's a good place to start. This post struck me rather profoundly. I was the first on the scene of an horrific accident in which a young man managed to wrap his car, almost literally, around a phone pole. I won't go into details, but being a nurse, knew his injuries were of the most serious nature, and doubted he'd come out of it alive. I never knew anymore after the squad arrived and he was transported out of the area to a major trauma center. Two years later, a fellow walked up to my g'house as I was watering. He came to introduce himself, and to let me know it was a long haul, but he lived. I was always grateful that he looked me up. I'd have always wondered.

I agree with the others that the Okna is the better engineered product, however comparing products in different materials is not apples to apples. Its like comparing a car and a motorcycle for transportation. Assess your goals for the project (IE: energy efficiency, appearance, cost, maintenance, etc) and then choose the material (wood, vinyl, or other) that best fits your goals and budget. At that point, I'd compare 2 or 3 product choices.

The driver sits in the back on the right side, and yes it would usually be the governess herself. Seating on the sides probably was best so that very young children could be watched more closely. No seat belts! One other bit of interesting info about this particular cart. The axle is made in such a way that it can be raised or lowered according to the height of the pony being used to pull it. I always thought that was neat. Too bad it is so expensive to have wicker repaired or I'd done that long ago. I was even tempted to take lessons and learn wicker work myself but never followed through.

If it's a DS or an old enduro, frikking ride it!

For a dirt bike, U-Haul rents motorcycle trailers for $14.95/day. Not sure if anyone else rents them, try calling Budget and Penske.

Well if you get the DRZ250 you will have to get the components to make it street legal in order to ride it... or... If youget the DRZ200 it has already been modified to ride on the street and _should_ have the title and registration to show it is street legal. That way you can actually ride it to the trails. I am sure there are people on this forum that know more than me about this subject.
