Deals Gap 'TToTD'?

any of you ever visit "The Tail of The Dragon" in deals gap TN/NC? i live very close to there (knoxville) and im usually over there a few times a week. it is an awesome road- 318 curves in 11 miles. people come from as far as central america and europe to ride it. anyone else here with any experience on this road?

Last September I rode from Michigan to Robbinsville. We rode The Dragon a few times. We also rode on the Cherohala Skyway and Hwy 28.

US129 from Robbinsville to Tapoco Lodge is better than any road in S/W Michigan.

The Dragon is very tight, technical and unforgiving. Trees and trees and trees.

Cherohala Skyway is longer, faster, and has some sightseeing capability, too.

My dream is to be able to ride The Dragon. I have a friend who lives not too far in Blairsville GA. He talks about the beauty up there. I think I'll have to have a different bike though...I have a 92 HD FXLRC it's so easy to ride, but a sport bike would be much more fun! Keep safe!

I have a narrow hallway with a bathroom door that opens out. For years I have not been able to put runners/rugs in the hall because of the door. I had planned to put a pocket door in but recently was told that because of the light switch wiring it was not possible and the suggestion was made that I install a barn door which I did. I did not know that there will be a gap once the barn door was installed, the gap it’s too large to ignore. You can clearly see a person sitting on the toilet or standing at the sink, aaagh!. I tried the weatherstrip as suggested here but it did not work so then I came up with the idea of attaching “L” shaped trim. I have attached photos and it works perfectly!You have to attach the trim on both sides of the door frame and the bolts for the tracks had to be turned around so that they will not catch on the trim.

looks like some fencing + bushy plants is the way to go. I think we probably will do garden fence + Nepeta/catmint. Thank you all for the comments! (Rex, yes, it's supposed to be a leggy shrub and actually it's owned by my neighbor so can't do much with it) (Cor, we probably can't install fence on the back side since it's my neighbor's property)

These are replacement windows for an old rowhouse (1880s). The company who did the installation does only custom windows, so they built the windows to measurements that they took onsite. How they take those measurements, and what bearing our old walls and previous window installations might have had on them (if anything), I don't know. These are not the first double-hung windows to go in. I didn't think to measure the old trim or take any pictures that are going to be very helpful. We had this same company put in a custom door and resize a window a few years ago, and it all went perfectly, so I just counted on things rolling out the same way this time. That was a mistake; if I'd tried to understand something about windows before now and mapped out what needed to happen, this all would have gone a lot better. I do have this old real estate listing photo of the same room from 6 years ago. The original trim was quite wide, at least 3"; I notice that the old casing in the photo is about as close to the ceiling as that new 4.5" casing is. So the 4.5" might not be quite as excessive at it sounds. So the large casing is OK, I think, unless I'm missing something. I think where the issue came in is that the gentleman who measured with us for the current redo [there was a previous attempt that went badly] ordered larger casing than they had previously installed, but didn't order any replacement of stool. He thought that the casing to be ordered would be less wide than the stool that they had already installed. But that assumed the casing would go up with a small reveal. It didn't, and with a reveal 3/4" and 1", the outer edge of the casing falls about where the stool ends (and are a little past it in one case). The installation team had no instruction to replace the stool as needed. Meanwhile, my husband didn't see the problem - he saw that the more egregious errors from an earlier try were gone [there had been some trim narrower than the original put up, which left even larger reveals than what we have now, plus a gap between the wall and window] and rejoiced. At least, this is what I have pieced together from what I know. If I ask the window company to replace just the stool, is that a relatively simple fix that everyone will like to hear? Can they just remove the apron and stool? Or would they have to take most of the casing off and start over?

Thanks. I will plan on using deck tape on top of the joists and beams. I'm going to use pressure treated wood for everything (posts, beams, joists, deck boards, railings). The current deck gives me a good idea of where I am going to face rot problems and these corners are high on the list. I also have rot on the inside corners at the connection to the house. It looks OK from the top but the sandwich of layers of wood without adequate drainage has created problems at the ledger board. It's very difficult to detail the flashing at these corners. My plan is to pour some new footings near the house and re-build the deck as a freestanding deck with 1" of separation from the house. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what to do on the exterior wall of the house after I pull off the ledger board. I could install siding (the siding continues underneath the deck) or a large piece of flashing to cover the 8-10" gap.

I've never heard of The Tail of the Dragon. I'll have to add it to my list of "places to ride". I've never ridden in the Eastern states but hope to plan a ride there in the next year or so. Thanks for the info.

Yup, I've been there and got a tee shirt to prove it! I was not the driver though, I was the one on the back counting curves to keep myself from looking down the gulleys! I totally trust my husbands abilities but that one had me a little worried.

It's an amazing road and a beautiful area. We spend alot of time riding in the Smokies.

I live in Middle Tennessee not far from the Dragon. Been there a few times and don't really prefer that tight of a road. Can't see anything but pavement right in front of you. Scenery is very nice on the Cherohala. I prefer that road to the Dragon.

i like the skyway, but riding a 250cc carb'd bike, the 12% grades uphill are a little much. if i had a 600cc (or better yet, a liter bike) the cherahola would be my favorite but i just cant do much with my bike up there.

BEAUTIFUL views though. some of the best in the smokeys!

I've ridden Deals Gap many times. With many, many different motorcycles and now with my Honda Helix.
I first rode it in about 1968 or so when I was in high school. Back then we didn't know it was called Deals GAp, we just knew it as one hell of a curvy road going over into North Carolina. I've also ridden the new parkway there and it is fantastic, other than the idiot motorcycle ridders going 80, 90 or 100 in some places. Those guys are dangerous. I just hope they don't hit anyone, including me, before they kill themselves.

A lot of people have died on the Deals Gap road, so don't try to prove your riding skills there, just have fun and enjoy it. I find the Helix eats up roads like that, it handles so easily, and the CVT has the engine at the right rpm everytime.

Hey Ryan! Mrs Goobs from ETR here! I agree 129 is an awesome road. No cross traffic etc. If you're interested in a 600 I might be parting with my R6, not sure yet.
