In spite of the white in the toile I think a cream wall color would work well and do a lot to brighten and warm the room. Another color that comes to mind is green, perhaps an apple green, but maybe with a little more white in it.

Or a soft yellow, a little brighter than butter but not as bright as lemon.

Do you have any paint color names? Cream or yellow both sound great.

Is the white actually white or an off-white? I just completed a black and off-white toile guest bedroom painting the walls Sherwin Williams Ivoire which is more complimentary to the off-white background of the toile.

I'm liking apple green with black and white these days. It seems the freshest.

I have a B/W toile bathroom - used Waverly Rustic Life fabric. Paint color is Pratt and Lambert Pastry. It's a soft muted yellow and goes really well with the toile's cream background.

This is a TERRIBLE picture, but it is of my daughter's room. It is a blue/aqua color.

Dixie, that is gorgeous! Tan, do you have any pics of your bathroom as that's the toile print I will be using.

I need to add that I will also be putting the same color in the adjoining master bath and it needs to be a color that will give good light as far as putting on makeup goes. Right now I have SW clary sage in there and it gives my skin a sickly glow.

I hope this isn't late, but I recently updated my spare room. There isn't alot of toile, but the comforter is toile and I did the wall a soft yellow.

I love the suggestion of the apple green, though Dixie's daughter's wall color is lovely as well.

From the way you describe the room, you are wanting something soft, colorful, but that will keep the feeling light and sunny. Any of these might fill that bill, because they are both pastel and sophisticated, and would provide the shot of color that looks so great with toile.
There's a really lovely blue-green from Duron called "Window Pane." Duron's "Gleeful" is a near-perfect sunny apple green. Other choices might be BMoore's "Queen Anne Pink" or "Windham Cream" from the historic group, or "Green Tea" or "Facepowder" from the Mount Vernon group from Sherwin-Williams.

Candace Olsen did a black and white toile bedroom several years ago.... She used BM marblehead gold on the walls and it was to die for!!!

There were several examples of B & W bedrooms on the HGTV site yesterday. I think they were listed as Our Favorite Picks of Rate My Space, or something like that. I tried to find them to post for you, but can't seem to locate them. Maybe you can look around that site and find them.
