Haha - Deborah - yes, pleasant sight for me too - have you planted any tomato seeds - as of yet - for this season? We decided to try the supposedly "fail proof" seed starter trays - not that we have had problems sprouting seeds in the past - it just looked like a great idea. Fill the bottom try with water - then put in the support shelf - then the capillary mat that extends into the water - then the seed cell tray - and finally the humidity dome. Everything is dishwasher safe (except the capillary mat) so the trays can be used over and over again - I am excited to see how it works!

From a discussion about Jersey Boy from several years back: "Red Rose is an open pollinated, stable cross of Brandywine x Rutgers, sold by Tomato Growers Supply for over a dozen years that I know of. The only reason I could see for buying Burpee's extremely expensive version of this cross would be to collect F2 seeds to spend several years selecting your own version of what you can buy now for less than half the price and a fraction of the effort." Burpee is fairly well known among experienced growers for taking an existing variety, doing a bit of seed selection on it, and then slapping their own name on it and marketing it as something "new and improved" and available "only from them". One reason why many of us will not deal with them for seeds. So what you most likely have is Red Rose seeds and it has the disease resistance of good old Rutgers, nothing more, nothing less. Summer Girl is nothing more than selected seeds from later maturing Early Girls and will have the same characteristic of the standard Early Girl which one can buy for half the price. Sorry. Not what you wanted to hear I know. Dave

Burpee is offering Free Shipping right now on any size order - you can't go wrong! Others have purchased Brandy Boy from Home Depot. Those are the only two sources that participants have mentioned - to the best of my memory. Good luck bcskye - you have a high chance of loving this variety !!

Hi Lar - I don't think there are a lot of Burpee fans on this forum so it may be difficult to find someone who has grown them - especially if they are only offered by Burpee. I don't personally have an interest because the fruit are only 8 oz and IMO - Determinate - because they are compact and the plant height is listed at 36-40". I know some Indeterminate plants are listed with that height but I don't believe they are listed as compact? There are only two reviews on Burpee (which is odd to have only two reviews if it is supposed to be such a great tomato!) - one pro and one con. The con review experienced BER - something to consider. I think you grow in a GH? I wouldn't waste the space on a compact plant - 8oz fruit - in a GH - when there are so many other great producing/tasting varieties - with many great reviews - to choose from. But I have been wrong many times before!!! If you do try them - please let us know how they do !!
