Knee pain that hurts in bed

A while back, someone posted here about having knee pain at night. I'd never heard of knee pain that hurts only when you lie down, but now I've got it.

The pain is a sharp sting, sometimes burning, slightly to the lower inside of my right knee. If I lie on my back, it subsides to the point where I can sleep. But if I turn on my side, the pain wakes me up.

I'm guessing if I see a rheumatologist he'll want to inject me with cortisone. That's a no-no for me (bad reaction). Anyone else have experience with this pain?

BTW, this post took forever to write because it kept freezing. I wonder if GardenWeb is having problems again . .
