May I pretty please have the Lemon Brownie recipe?

Hi there! I love reading all of your posts - you all sound like such good friends and it makes me feel good and hapy to read your posts (and hungry too!!). I did a search for lemon brownines as it was mentioned on a post, but couldn't find it. I googled it and there were so many different recipes - I would rather ask about the ones some of you may have made. If it is not too much trouble, could you share with me please? Lemon Brownies
Marilyn-Cooking Forum

1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter; room temperature
4 eggs
Juice from 1/2 lemon
Zest from 1 lemon
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Additional lemon zest for garnish

Preheat oven to 350Â°. Grease and flour the bottom only of a 9X13X2-inch baking pan. In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar and salt; add butter. Stir together eggs, juice from 1/2 lemon and zest from 1 lemon; stir into batter and pour into prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and cool on a rack.

When brownies are cool prepare glaze by stirring together powdered sugar and 2 tablespoon lemon juice; drizzle over brownies and sprinkle with additional lemon zest.

papillon, here it that recipe, I pulled it from another thread Decadent Brownies (Ann T) 1 Cup butter 20 Ounces chocolate 1-1/2 Cups sugar Pinch of salt 4 eggs 1 Cup flour vanilla to taste 1 Cup toasted pecans/walnuts (Optional: use 3/4 cup brown and 3/4 cup white sugar, or Add a shot of espresso) Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½ Method One Melt chocolate and butter in microwave bowl. Beat in sugar and salt. Beat in eggs add vanilla. Do not over mix. Mix in flour. Mix in pecans/walnuts. Pour into rectangle cake pan that has been lined with tin foil and rubbed with butter. Bake in oven at 350 for approximately 30 minutes. Do not over bake. Should still be soft in the middle. Put into freezer immediately for 1 hour or until cold. Cut into 8 bars and wrap each in plastic wrap and freeze. Method Two Another Option. Both methods are good and I use them interchangeably. Melt butter and sugar together over medium heat until the butter has melted and the mixture is smooth. Add the chocolate and stir until chocolate melts. Continuing stirring until the mixture is smooth. Add one egg at a time and mix until each is well incorporated before adding the next egg. Add vanilla (and espresso if using). Stir in flour and salt and mix well. Stir in the pecans or walnuts and pour into prepared pan. Bake in a 350 Ã¯Â¿Â½F for approximately 30 minutes. Do not over bake. Brownies should be set in the middle but still slightly soft. Place immediately in the freezer. When cold, remove and cut into bars. In defense of the Army, and based on my own experience making up my college syllabus every year, I would say a lot of that verbiage is due to the atmosphere in our society today, a resistence towards accountability, i.e., "I didn't know that the flour wasn't supposed to have cockroaches in it, that wasn't in the manual." I imagine that the original recipe was about 5 pages long and each end every extra comment got added as time went on and somebody screwed up. Every year my syllabus gets longer and longer, as I have to cover every possible scenario so a student can't say, "That wasn't covered by the syllabus." For example, I have to specifically state that there is to be no cheating in class, (as if that wasn't a given) and then I have to go into great detail to describe specifically what constitutes cheating and what the consequences will be in each case. I not only put due dates for all my assignments but I break them up into "milestones" and tell my students, "At this point you should have your paper half done" etc. Also, since people only read about 25% of the instructions anyway, I'll bet that accounts for a lot of the repitition. Also, I'll bet the reason this absurdly detailed recipe was allowed to flourish is that the military has other better things to do with its time than go through the process of editing the brownie recipe! I'll bet the instructions for assembling a rifle are a lot more suscinct!

Juice them and store either in your fridge in a tightly sealed jar, or in your freezer. I like to add lemon to a variety of recipes, such as my mixed bean soup and chicken soups (both spicy and not), couscous with olive oil, garlic and lemon (works with pasta too, especially with added seafood or chicken), apple dishes, tuna salad, coleslaw, as part of a light dressing for vegetables or salad. Even can add a teaspoon or so to biscuits or pancakes without them becoming really lemon flavored - it makes them more tender just as sour cream would. Anything where you like a bit of brightening up of the flavor. And you can make your own lemon & honey throat remedy too.

Thanks for posting this! I think I'm going to make it tomorrow for dessert. I know it came up in a thread I started about lemon bars years ago, but I forgot to safe it!

Does it matter if I use salted or unsalted butter? The last time I shopped, I accidentally bought salted butter isntead of unsalted and I'm wondering how salty it will make recipes... can I just omit the salt in this and use the salted butter?

Bobby, use either kind of butter you have. If you have salted, use it and leave the salt out.

I made a few changes to Marilyn's recipe to suit my tastes. I added a teaspoonful of baking powder, I wanted it more "cake like" and less dense. I also doubled the lemon juice, because I love lemon. And I pour the glaze over the bars while they are still warm, it kind of sinks in and when it cools it is a little "crackly". I like that texture.

All in all, it's a great recipe and very adaptable. Leave the baking powder out or put it in. Double the lemon juice or not. Glaze while hot if you're in a hurry, wait until they cool if you aren't.

I've never had a batch fail, no matter the changes, so I don't think salted/unsalted butter is going to make a lick of difference.

I'm making these.. DH turns his nose up on anything chocolate and I love brownies. I don't make them too often unless I know I'll have help eating them. I love lemon, so these would be perfect treat every now and then. Thank you.

I made the recipe last night. You were right, Annie... the salted butter worked just fine. I also think I will add baking powder next time too. They were very dense... almost too dense to have a brownie texture. Thank you for telling me about that! Seems a weird order to add the ingredients too, why not cream the sugar and butter first?

Still taste great though!

Bobby, they are almost "rubbery" or something without the baking powder, I've got that weird texture thing going on, so I added the baking powder.

The order of ingredients is kind of unusual, but it works so I don't worry about it, LOL.
