I'm thorougly enjoying this. Our CL has just the lowest mediocre stuff - none of the fabulous furniture that I've seen other's here buy and unfortunately none of the really bad, but funny stuff either. Flying flower - those statues are fabulous, I can't believe he's selling them for a $1 each - even with a pink boa. Mhillgal - you and others reading this post may not be aware, but George Nelson is a famous furniture designer who designed the marshmellow sofa in 1956 and it is considered an iconic piece of mid-century modern furniture. It is extremely expensive to make because making and wrapping each of those circles with fabric and tying them into a frame is very labor intensive compared to just upholstering a regular couch. In addition, these are made to contract quality meaning they are built to meet higher standards for use in commercial and hospitals etc. That one is so cheap that I assume the one in your CL is a cheap China knock off and not a real marshmallow sofa made in the US by Herman Miller for $2,899.00. Ironically, like most MCM furniture, this was supposed to be easy to manufacture making it cheap and accessible to the average person. If you've ever sat in one, it's fun to sit in and has a nice bouncy feel to it, but it's not lounging in front of the tele material. You can even detach each circle and move them around to equalize wear and tear, or if you have multi-colored circles, you can play with the pattern. Oh gosh yes, but my quilting is like playing musical chairs, as I move from one project to another. I have broken my new year's resolution not to start another quilt before I got the ones in progress done. LOL. It all started out when I decided to straighten up my stash so I could get it all back into tubs and put away. You know how one thing leads to another. I decided I had way too many crumbs and scraps.......so took all the scraps large enough to cut a four inch block from and spent the morning generating blocks. Well that lead to putting some together. I had this one pattern I wanted to try and ended up getting a two by four section of quilt top done on it and HATED IT! It was one of those 'what was I thinking' moments. A chain pattern and one doesn't really know how they'll look until you get a few together. I was smart enough to just stop right there and I may even take it apart to rescue some of the vintage print fabric I used in it. I then had to start choosing a different pattern with my blocks and found one I liked and now I can't stop working on it. rofl. I love it. I have a paper piece with all the blocks made but not put together on the design wall, and a baby quilt I am within days of finishing the hand quilting on. So, here I am with three projects in the mill again.

Thank you bunches Bobby for making a tutorial for me! The puff quilt I saw back in my college days used much larger squares like about 8" x 8" after stuffing so am thinking I will use a larger size something like that. Thanks for letting me know that I am suppose to only pleat the top square. I do like to sew by hand a lot, but I don't know, I may when making the 3 sides might would use the machine and then just hand sew the 4th side. Hubby is wanting a lighthouse quilt and he wants a quilt with a little more weight to it - he said my last quilt felt like a summer quilt cause it was so lightweight. So am thinking I might could do a large lighthouse pieced block in the center of the quilt and then do large puff squares around it and stuff them so that it give the quilt more weight, that's what I am thinking about doing along the lines of a puff quilt, I don't know I will have to give it some thought. And it's inspiring, gets me thinking about my "future" quilt room. Well my weekend did not go quite as planned, but had a good weekend. Went shopping with my mom and had a good visit with her Saturday morning and lunch. Then Saturday afternoon a close family friend's grandparents have passed away during the past year and so they asked us to come help clean out some of his grandma's sewing stuff and then wants me to keep, donate, or toss items as I see fit. So Saturday afternoon I helped dig part of his grandma's garden and then helped clean out sewing stuff out of the shed and then brought all that stuff home and went through it all on Sunday, hubby took some stuff to Goodwill this afternoon. There is fabric from our friend's grandma and his great-grandma that seems a little fragile so I am not going to wash it, but instead I plan to make large quilt squares out of the vintage fabric and frame the quilt blocks for our friend, his mom, and his sister. It's been a humbling experience sorting everything and it's been interesting seeing what she used in her sewing such as notions and fabrics, our friend's grandma did a lot of clothes sewing and their are patterns that are so old they only have 50cents marked as their price on them and I would like to frame some of them. Our friend's mom asked me and hubby to come back later this week when she cleans out her mom's bedroom aka sewing room, so it's just very humbling. The only other time in my life I have ever had to go through a deceased person's belongings was when one of my grandmothers passed in 2000, so helping our close family friend with his grandma's stuff kind of reminds me of my grandma ..., and along those lines, my Mom brought me some old quilt blocks that my grandma had made before she passed in 2000, so I have not decided yet if I am going to frame those blocks or whether I want to make a wall hanging or lap quilt out of them, there is just a few of them, but I feel really fortunate to have them.
