progesterone cream

I'm wondering if anyone has used progesterone cream vaginally and what results you might have experienced with using it that way. Also, Dr. Lee recommends decreasing your estrogen dosage when you use the progesterone cream - has anyone done that or do you stay on the same dosage?

I've talked to a couple of people who have been put on a low dose of progesterone (this is the oral kind of progestone, if that makes any difference) that is taken every day with no rest period along with their estrogen - does anyone have any experience with that type of regimen? Thanks.

Are you saying that you take estrogen *without* progesterone at the moment? I hope not if you have a uterus. Why are you interested in using cream vaginally? I have only heard of Crinone (which is a gel) being used this way.

Some time back a woman on the forum was talking about using the OTC progesterone cream vaginally. I believe she had consulted a "natural" health care practitioner who recommended this use. No one else had heard of it. I was using Progest at the time and so one evening being in an adventurous mood, I tried it. Didn't seem to make any difference one way or the other. My biggest concern would be the possiblility of irritation caused by other ingredients in the OTC creams. I also wonder why you are considering using it this way.

I cant speak to reducing estrogen after starting progesterone. I started the progesterone first and later added a small amount of Estriol cream. I no longer use OTC progesterone, instead I have a prescription from my doctor and get it filled at a compounding pharmacy. I believe this is a more accurate way of obtaining the desired dose.

Natural Progesterone and Dr Lee have been instrumental in me now asking my GP here in Devon, Uk for some on prescription. Its not a patented product so no pharaceutical company will benefit from it, hence its not often given out by Drs here in the UK anyway. I have come off HRT, had a full hsyterectomy in January, as i didn't like the side effects and am only 42 so want to try something natural and this has been recommended by many of my friends in the same position as me. They all have come off HRT and try all sorts of things, but apparently the Pharmacist told me today when i asked about it "oh yes thats very popular nowadays and the Dr will prescribe it for you". Marvellous, proof will be in the pudding, and hopefully my weight gain and hot flushes will disperse, i exercise every day, weight train and run too and still have gained weight with water retention, so im hoping this natural Pro-Juven progesterone cream will help me. Thanks, [b]kguise[/b], for your suggestion to not use it every day... about 2 months ago, I cut back to every 2 days, & now I'm cutting back to once a week... Since I started using progesterone cream about 3 months ago, I've had a big increase in vaginal discharge... it's clear to slightly pink & very watery... I've read online that this is one of the side effects of progesterone... annoying, to say the least... I'm hoping by cutting back this particular problem will be alleviated...

Progesterone, and all the other hormone treatments, have a slow gradual effect. Don't expect a sudden change, but wait 2-3 months and see if you can tell any difference. If not, then it may not be the cause of the problems you are having. I can tell the progesterone cream works for me because I get PMS symptoms on a regular basis now. Prior to my using it, I would go for many months without any hormone level symptoms at all. (I don't have periods due to a partial hyst at a young age). I would rather have PMS than no sign of hormone function at all, lol. Mrs H

I have been on oral HRT since my total hysterectomy and have done well. Several months ago I had a DVT in my leg and was advised to cease the oral HRT. I believe there were other factors that caused the clot but I did comply. I felt horrible. I talked to my gyn and compounding pharmacist and they decided on the bi-est progesterone cream as an alternative. I am on .5 mg. and 20 mg. progesterone. I just wonder if the .5 is strong enough because I was on 1.25 Triest oral medication. How can I be sure I am getting all the medicine when I have to rub it on my thigh????

I tried using the progesterone cream vaginally once to see if it would help with the dryness (this was prior to me starting Biest). I did experience some irritation and it was messy. Since I have been on Biest and Progesterone cream, I no longer have the dryness problem. All other problems- hot flashes and sleeplessness have also disappeared. My doctor and the compounding pharmacy both agree that it is better to use the cream rather than add the progesterone to the estrogen.

Hi Andy19, I have just posted a question about taking oestrogen and proegesterone at the same time every day, with no break. I would love to hear from others. Read mine, if there are any answers.

Has anyone tried the vaginal progesterone gel called Crinone 4%? It's designed to be used vaginally as opposed to creams which you are supposed to rub elsewhere. It seems to be a newish product not available everywhere. Having read www.rxmixer.com/hormone3.html I am seriously considering a progesterone only HRT programme to see how it goes. Apparently progesterone is a building block from which the body can produce estrogen and testosterone. Has anyone tried progesterone only? I'm perimenopausal, almost 50, still having periods. Tried HRT twice but stopped due to bloating and weight gain which dropped off when I stopped.
