Has anyone used the color Millet - same strip as Tobacco Road?

We're painting our entire first floor. FR, Kitchen and foyer are Tobacco Road (love it!) but dh thinks the LR and DR should be a different shade. Our local paint store carries the Millenium fan deck and suggested Millet, two shades lighter than Tobacco Road.

I was all set to buy Plantation Beige but the colors didn't really look too different on the fan deck, so I went with Millet. Got it on one wall and it looks kind of blah, although it is getting dark outside.

Just wondering if anyone has used this color and if you have a picture to share?

Hey there ... "too" funny(!), I started painting my master bath Millet yesterday (and we're painting our master bedroom Tobacco Road). So far, I love it ... it looks darker/lighter depending on the time of the day, but stays consistently calming and fresh looking. I know it's going to work really well with the Tobacco Road. We were going to go with PB, but, like you, felt it is too similar to TR. I'll be curious to see what others have to say.

Hey Becca! Glad to hear you like Millet so far, I'd love to see a picture if you have time! I've painted swatches in several places and it's coming off as a bit cool...does it look that way to you? I'm surprised b/c Tobacco Road is so warm.

Or maybe it's just a cloudy day in January?!

Good Luck painting, and I'd love to see the colors together if you have the chance!

Thanks, everyone. KMCG ... I know what you mean about the LA Gold 3. I have it in my master bath/bed, foyer, great room and kitchen. Thus, the reason to start breaking away from it !! Hellokitty, I'll be happy to post pics as soon as I get it done 1! And, twotogo ... I LOVE looking at those pics for inspiration and have a couple of times already ... there's almost *too* many choices. :-) I really would love something creamy in color and warm ... hoping one of the lighter shades on the TR strip fits the bill. Which paints have you used with Tobacco Road ? Need warm neutral

I'm probably too late, but I've painted the family room open to my adjoining TR kitchen in Plantation Beige. I think you'll find there's more of a contrast than you might suspect by looking at the strip -- but with good flow (IMHO). I'm looking at it right now on my walls, and the PB is definitely noticably lighter than TR. Good luck.

Get a sample! yay! California Paints is a super brand. This is my opinion and a few 'paint people' have told me I'm nuts but I feel SW colorants have a really strong green. With many colors crossed into SW I see that under undertone of green. I quit asking other people if they see it too because all I get is looked at like I have two heads. TR mixed elsewhere, according to my color logic ;), would likely not have that under undertone of green - or maybe let's say 'not as strong'. I've had TR mixed in just about every national brand and with TR the under undertone of green happens in other brands too, not just SW. The trick is in the black to gray ratio, more gray than black = less green under undertone. There's a reason there is so much chatter out there about TR. Kind of reminds me of recipes for paella - everyone thinks they have the 'best' one. :)

I have SW Whole Wheat in my kitchen and family room area. My understanding is that this is very similar to Tobacco Road and I actually had SW give me color to go samples of both that were quite similar. In the rest of the adjoining rooms I have SW Believable Buff. It complements the Whole Wheat very well, but it still has the gold undertones, it is just lighter. The house is still under construction, and much of the wood trim work is not yet done so I apologize for the mess, but here are a few shots of each color. This is Whole Wheat in family room: Whole Wheat in kitchen: Believable Buff in foyer: I also think your rooms look great in the pictures, but you need to be happy living in them every day. Your kitchen is stunning with the mix of painted and stained cabinets! I loved SW color sample pots and they saved me from making some huge mistakes while choosing colors for the new build. I wish I had used them more! Every color looks different in different lighting/housing situations and the $5 was worth avoiding an expensive mistake. Good luck!

Our family room is painted in millet. My sister and a close friend have also painted rooms in millet. It's a warm color and does change with the time of day and with the amount of light in your room. It's been 8 years since we painted, and I still like it.

Boots2007, glad to hear you still like the color after 8 years - I've never lived with a color that long! Must be nice.

Any chance you have a picture to share? I just can't picture the color on the walls with my green/gold sofa.
